We are a RSC associate school!
Our school has been part of the Royal Shakespeare Associate Schools programme since September 2016. The programme is built around the principle of schools working in local partnerships to develop communities of practice. Our teachers work alongside RSC members-exploring one of Shakespeare’s plays through active drama strategies. This work is then shared with the children ultimately visiting the theatre to see live productions- we allow Shakespeare’s words to inspire the next generation. This year we will be taking part in the Shakespeare Festival March 2022! We will be performing at The Grand (Blackpool) in Much A Do About Nothing!
We may not have been able to visit the theatre but Shakespeare has been alive and kicking in Year 5. Enjoy our recreations of Act 2 scene 2 of Midsummer Night’s Dream! Fairies are criminal?
The children in Year 5 and our Shakespeare Ambassadors, had the opportunity to experience life behind the scenes at The Grand.
What can I say about this week? It is hard to put into words what it’s like teaching Shakespeare to young children. The “active approaches” we have gained from working with the RSC transform the classroom into a place of self expression and exploration.
Why not go and experience a First Encounters Performance of this wonderful Shakespeare Play. A perfect introduction to Shakespeare for all ages. Tickets are £5 and available from the school office of Our Lady of the Assumption, Common Edge Road, Blackpool, FY4 5DF or can be reserved by phoning 01253 762833
