A great week in school, we are buzzing with activity, as every nook and cranny is filled with children reading, singing, playing sports, creating art and learning to grow their brains.
In Art…
Reception were challenged to draw the missing half of my pictures, half a sun, half a face etc. This proved to be rather tricky but with a lot of perseverance we were very happy with our results.
Year one used stencils to print in primary colours. After cutting simple shapes into stiff paper, we used a small sponge attached to a peg to dab the paint into the cavity. We repeated the patterns with all three stencils and all three colours. We created beautiful print work.
Year two had to show their resilience in their design technology lesson as we made a working prototype. We had to listen carefully and help our partners to create a moving vehicle with four moving wheels and two axles. After this we took them into the hall and tested them. With only one push we saw how far our vehicles could go. These went home with the children to play some more and explain to their families how the wheels work.
Year three continued with their collage topic, this time looking at optical illusion art from Hungarian artist Victor Vasarely. We agreed that some of his artwork played with our eyes and parts looked like they were moving. Using black and white paper, a ruler for accurate measuring and straight lines, we created our own art inspired by his.
Year four started their painting topic properly this week after the joys of the Danceathon last week. We had already glued the different papers into our sketch books , we chose two primary colours and painted alternative papers in these. We used a thin brush and had to be as neat as possible, painting in the same direction to give the same finish. We noticed that some papers were better for painting on than others and discussed why. Next week we will be over painting with a thinner brush to show our skill, it will be like drawing in paint.
Year five started their Printmaking topic and learned about ‘block reduction printing’. This is printing sections of our picture in different colours on top of each other. We planned ours for the next three weeks as we will be adding three layers to our artwork. We also planned our Christmas card design as we will be making these in the same technique. Next week we add the yellow layer.
Year six saw their dyed fabric from last week and liked the dried results. We cut the fabric down to fit on black card before drawing a Norman Foster inspired picture on top of the fabric in black marker pen. These look stunning and will replace the pop art outside the staff-room.
Art Club met for the first time and got to know each other a bit better as they created new and funky hair for their bald photographs. I’m looking forward to making monster pots with you next week.
Blue Peter Badges. As you know I love my Blue Peter badge and encourage the children to get involved with this fabulous children’s television show. This week Emma in year four came to show me her new badge and posed for a picture to go on my wall of fame. If you have a Blue Peter badge and you’d like to go on the wall, pop in and see me in the Create room with your badge.
Have a wonderful weekend.
God Bless.
