Weekly Home Learning Year 5 to be handed in on Thursday 10th Dec

It has been lovely to return to class and teach in person this week. Mrs Nel and I have missed the children.

Thank you for working online for the past three weeks. We have our homework books again today so some of todays work will be completed in their books.

Reading

Reading continues to be the most important homework. Some children have smashed their target and I’m encouraging these children to Complete more TT Rockstars in class. While others have still to reach their target and theses children are making their books the priority. It is great to see sooo many tricky books being quizzed on. We have received a beautiful book of brand new books with exciting titles from the library service and this has given the children a lovely boost.

Maths

Thank you for working hard on the IXL modules last week. This week our final virtual lesson with Mrs Hotchkiss teaching the reading of two ways tables. This was tricky. I have glued 5 tricky questions into your book to answer. If you are finding it tricky you could go over parts of my filmed lesson to help.

Keep your Rockstars going at home everyday (5 minutes)

Science

This week we have been super practical in class exploring gravity and friction. We have learnt the difference between fluid friction (air and water resistance) and sliding and rolling friction. We understand that more than one force is at work at one time and when something is moving the forces are not in balance. I have set a task in Purple Mash for the children to complete. There are two diagrams with forces arrows on them and a paragraph for you to explain what you now know about gravity and friction.

Geography

Our homework projects for North America are due back next week. They will then be presented in the final week of term.

Optional Scientific fun

If you have time and your curious why not have a go at this experiment! Can you film your attempts and email them to me? Show some good scientific thinking on your film!

Have Fun!!!
