With only one week until our half term break, we are squeezing every ounce of learning into our school days. The days are lighter, the evenings shorter, even the golden daffodils are making an appearance Spring is on it’s way…
In Art…
Year one made impressions in clay this week as we created a beautiful little pulled dish. Using our fingers to roll, squash and shape the clay into a dish shape. We used tools to make impressions into the base of the dish. These look fabulous and have already gone home.
Year two created a fabulous clay sculpture in response to a story. The story of The Magic Garden, an unused garden, owned by a King and Queen who are shocked to discover many vegetables growing and new one appearing daily as if by magic, ask your children who the real gardeners are. These sculptures have already gone home.
Year three printed animal skins and furs today using a homemade clay tile, rolled and cut to size and carved to the desired pattern. We then painted on top and placed paper over and rubbed gently to reveal a lovely print. These tiles also have made a lovely coaster and will be coming home tonight.
Year four had great fun as we concluded our design technology on pneumatic systems. We added the syringes and tubing in the correct place to lift the tipper from the tipper truck. I placed a sweet of the children’s choice on the tipper, the test was would their pneumatic system tipper the sweet off? We were very excited and a little nervous to see if we were successful or not. I am very proud to report we had 100% success, Sweets were eaten and celebration claps and cheers were given. Great job year four.
Year five created a beautiful clay, slab rolled vase with a coloured inlay. After watching my demonstration, the children were challenged to remember the steps taken and recreate their own vase. This was very enjoyable and we now have a fabulous display of these vases in the corridor outside the Create room.
Year six Painted their 3D animal masks white, ask you child why? We then practised painting our chosen animal in our sketch books, we needed to mix our own colours and shades and add a fur/feather/scale texture to the the finished result. We will put this into our painting of our masks next week.
Art Club Group three, week five. This was the clubs final week for these children and everyone said they had enjoyed it very much. KS1 painted with only the primary colours, they were challenged to see how many colours they could make from just those three. KS2 painted their clay monster pots from last week. Group four will be announced next week and will start after the half term break.
Art Exhibit Starting on Tuesday 11th February until Sunday 1st March our school will be in an Art Exhibition at the Lytham Heritage Centre (2 Henry st, Lytham, FY85LE) Open all week except Monday’s, from 10am to 4pm. This free to visit and is really fantastic. I have entered fifty three children’s art work so why not pop along during the half term break, I know I will.
Have a restful weekend, one week to go…
God Bless
