Good morning year 1! Well done for another week of brilliant learning. I have loved seeing all your home learning this week, especially your sunflower photos! I wonder whose sunflower will grow the tallest? Don’t forget if you haven’t filled in your Sunflower Diary for this week, make sure you do so today.

Phonics
Today I would like you to watch the set 2 and set 3 speed sounds, by clicking on the link.
Have you explored Phonics Play yet? If not, have a go!
English
Following on from yesterday, I would like you to create your own story map for the sentences you have written. One story sentence each for the beginning, build up, problem, resolution and ending. Once you have created your story sentences, can you practise retelling them with actions and enthusiasm? Here is a story map for my sentence: One sunny day Peter Rabbit scampered along the warm lane to Mr McGregors garden. I would love to see your finished story maps, please email them to me. :)
Reading
This week I would like you to take some time to get cosy and listen to some Peter Rabbit Tales by Beatrix Potter. Maybe you could listen to them while you draw your favourite Beatrix Potter characters.

I have also got two books for you to read this week. The second book is a bit more challenging, why don’t you read it with a grown up?

EPIC READING - Let’s keep growing a love of reading!
I am very excited because I have found a new reading resource for your child to use - Epic Reading. Epic reading can be used online or on the app. It has a huge selection of ebooks, completely free and the best thing is…you can find books using your child’s ZPD level! This is brilliant as it means your child can read books that accurately match their reading level. There are also lots of quizzes to do. It’s super easy to set up, using your email. If you would like to get involved, please email me on e.lane@ourladystarofthesea.lancs.sch.uk. I will then link your email to your child’s profile so that you can access the books at home. Miss Hornby has also asked if in the email you send, you can give permission for us to add your email to Texts to Parents; it would be very handy to have your emails saved on our system.
Maths
Grown ups please go to the following website: https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/ . Today I would like you to do Lesson 2, Step 1, Count in tens, with your child. There is a short video for you to watch and discuss together. Please pause the video and give your child time to explain their reasoning to you. Following on from this, there is some questions for your child to answer.
Don’t forget your SumDog challenge: counting in 5s and 10s within 100. You have until Monday to do this challenge.
PE
Tune in to The Body coach for ‘PE with Joe’ at 9 o’clock this morning, to get you warmed up for the day ahead. https://www.youtube.com/user/thebodycoach1
Check out this weeks PE challenge.
History
This week I have an exciting history project for you to do. I would like you to create something to commemorate the Apollo 11 Moon Landing. Can you remember what commemorate means? Maybe you could design a new coin or a stamp? Maybe you could make a space shuttle of your own? The more creative the better.
Tiger Challenge
Can you make up a gymnastic sequence with a carrot roll (pencil roll), a bunny hop and a star jump?
For those of you who would like something extra to keep you busy, I have set you two computing challenges on Purple Mash. One is typing practise on 2Type and the other is directional mazes using 2Go.
I will not be setting any home learning next week; I would like you to have a rest and enjoy some family time over Easter. However, there will be a collection of lovely Easter activities on the blog for you to do if you would like to. I will be back on Tuesday 14th April with your home learning. I will not be responding to emails over Easter; I will be taking some time to spend with my family too. I hope you have a wonderful Easter break with your families. I miss you all lots and lots!
God Bless,
Miss Lane
