Year 5 homework to be handed in on March 12th

Reading

I hope you all managed to get to the Book Fair this week. It is still on- on Monday after school! We had a little look around on Friday afternoon and I could see the children had their eyes on some cool looking books. Next week we reach the half way mark for this half term so our targets should be at around 50%. I will be meeting with all the children individually to see how they are getting on.

Maths

We are learning how to solve long multiplication calculations. This is always a challenge! It is essential that all the children know their tables. Please keep being creative- find as many ways to test/support your child! Please complete compete D4, D5 and D24 on IXL - TEACH your parents how to do it using the extended method. Don’t jump ahead parents your child will be teaching the short method to you next week. I have attached a scanned copy of one of our books to show you what we have been doing. We do this extended method for a couple of lessons to support a clear understanding of the process.

Spellings

As we move onto our topic of Earth and Space I would like the children to learn these spellings:

Galaxy

Intergalactic

Solar System

Neptune

Mercury

Jupiter

Saturn

Uranus

Universe

Alms Giving

Thank you for helping the children to think of others last week. This week we are going to ask you or a grandparent what they would like help with. If you can celebrate this gift of timing giving with a 20p donation to our CAFOD box we would very much appreciated it!

Science Homework - research

What is a constellation? What can you find out? You might want to spend time staring at the sky at night once you have found out. Record what you have discovered in your homework book. If it fires your imagination make us a PowerPoint or film to watch in class!

Thank you!!
