Year 5 Tuesday May 5th Learning from Home

Good Morning!

Let’s continue with our History this morning. If you studied code cracking yesterday, move onto the Blitz today or the Battle of Britain. Remember to send me the work or pictures of you models and posters etc - I will post them all on our blog on the 8th the anniversary of VE day!

TASK 1 MONDAY AND TUESDAY- HISTORY - WHAT HAVE I LEARNT?

I would like you to explore this BBC History website. It has a wide variety of short films about different aspects of World War II. Find out about the planes that won the Battle of Britain and how important the invention radar was. Find out about code cracking and how that helped Britain and her allies win the war. It is up to you! Explore and learn- let your curiosity take the lead (be a Clara the Clownfish) then think about how you might present what you have learnt. You could:

Make a short film of yourself- explaining

Create a PowerPoint.

Write me an email

Make a poster (propaganda)

Make a model/ ration book

Complete the Purple Mash - “Rationing” I have set this in your “2dos” if you choose this one (optional)

Reflect on your work does it clearly show what you have learnt?

What you know now that you didn’t know before!

TASK 2 MATHS SIMPLIFYING

Today I have linked you to the NCETM this is the National College for Excellence in Teaching Maths. Their team have been making videos for children too. I have decided to give you one of these today for a change and to give you a rest for me- shaking it up!! I hope you enjoy. Complete your fluency first so that you are warmed -up.

Learn what is the simplest form when we look at equivalent fractions!

Task 3 - GRAMMAR PARENTHESIS

TASK 4 KENSUKE’S POSTSCRIPT - Planning

At the end of the book there is a postscript- this is an extra note the reader that tells them what happened next. It is a moving letter from Michiya (Kensuke’s real son) to Michael. Michael had, after ten years, told everyone the truth about Kensuke and his small island kingdom and written this book. Michiya has read about his father for the first time (newspapers and the novel). Read the letter carefully. It is very moving. We are going to write a letter back the letter Michael would have written back to Michiya. Watch the video!

Unfortunately Mrs Hotchkiss’s film corrupted and I have been unable to link the webcam and screen back together!!!!!!!!!! ARGH !!!!! Iyou can hear me but you can’t see me today! This is my third attempt!!!
