Year 6 Remote Learning - Tuesday 23rd February 2021

Good morning Year 6. Today you will be making a model of the digestive system to see what happens at each stage…truly disgusting!

Here is our weekly overview and our timetable for today.

Timetable 4.PNG

English - SKELLIG. All about OWLS

  1. VIDEO 1 - Listen to Skellig - chapters 31, 32 and 33. Some of the story we have heard before but it is always good to refresh.

  2. VIDEO 2 - Let’s pick up where we left off. What can you remember about OWLS? We started a piece of work back in class before Christmas. Today, we are going to complete some further research ready for our explanatory writing later on this week.

Can you choose a specific type of owl and collate as much content as you can about your owl? What is it’s habitat? What are it’s distinctive physical features? What does it eat? Are there any general information and specific facts that could be included?

You will need to research beyond the websites that I have given you to gather the content that you need for writing.

Spelling - Homophones. Words that are confused.

Week 3.png

Here are your spellings for this week. Same process as last week:

Monday - spellings announced

Wednesday - spellings dictation

Friday - spelling quiz.

MATHS - Calculating Area and Perimeter

What is area? What is perimeter? Can you remember? Today we are calculating the area and perimeter of squares and rectangles.

  1. Times Table Rockstars

  2. IXL Year 5 R5 and R6

  3. Area and perimeter of squares and rectangles lesson

Science - The Digestive System INVESTIGATION

This week is all about how our guts work - lovely!

TASK 1 - Here are two investigations - exactly the same but presented in two different ways. The button will take you to a PDF explaining the instructions. By clicking on the image, you will be taken to a film explaining the investigation. Take some photographs of you completing the investigation and make a pic collage.

Have you got your science materials ready?

You will need:

  • A tea towel

  • A glass of water

  • A glass of orange juice

  • A banana

  • Some biscuits or Weetabix type cereal

  • A sealable plastic bag

  • One leg from an old pair of tights.

TASK 2 - Digestive system animation PURPLE MASH

Now that you have some understanding of the digestive system and the processes involved, can you animate it? Make an animation of a piece of food entering at the mouth and it’s journey through the body. What does it encounter as it meets each organ in the digestive system?
