Art News… Summer Term… Week One
It has been a lovely break and we are all refreshed and ready for our final term of two six week blocks.
In Art…
Year one looked at the painting ‘Zero through Nine’ by American artist Jasper Johns. We created a painting in this style making our colour lighter and darker using white and black paints.
Year two continued with their Anthony Frost painting. last session added different textures and shapes to our page, we painted it white. This week we added some colour, we made our colours lighter using white paint, There were many gasps of delight as we saw our colours change so much.
Year three started a new topic, Textiles. We discussed what we will be doing this half term and were very excited to learn we will be printing and drawing on an old white T-shirt. ( I have placed a box in year three for the collection of everyone’s T-shirt. This can be an old school T-shirt or one from an older sibling or parent. Please add the childs name on the label in the neck area, Thank you for your continued support.) we looked at different fabric and their designs we then drew them in our sketch books ready for designing our own.
Year four moved on to their Printmaking topic and looked at the difference between typical English patters and typical African patterns. We drew a few in our sketch books as a starting point to creating our own pattern for printing next week.
Year five started their Textiles topic and were confused when I asked them ‘How could we destruct the fabric in front of them?’ We then had fun ripping, cutting and fraying the cotton fabric. We then had a trickier problem, how could we construct the same fabric? This we harder as we plaited, knotted , twisted and folded the fabric together. Next week we will use the fabric strips and change its form completely.
Year six continued with their Painting topic and looked at the Cubist Movement and the leading artists in the movement Picasso and Braque. We had a go drawing in this style and then only having the Primary colours and white and black we used one colour family to paint our own versions.
This half term we would normally be doing Food Technology across the school, unfortunately this had to be cancelled due to covid restrictions. I will however put up one recipe that each class would have been doing, in the half term break so that if possible a little could be done at home.
Have a wonderful weekend. The sun promises to make an appearance.
Stay safe and God bless.
