Art News… Week 3
Another full on week of exciting learning here at Our Lady’s. Everywhere the eye can see are children enjoying their learning, from science experiments, swimming lessons, tricky math problems and wonderous writing and of course great art.
In Art…
Reception drew the people and pets in their family, it was lovely sharing with everyone as they proudly showed who was who.
Year one had fun with clay again in their 3D topic and responded to the story of Henry the Pebble. Each pebble had trouble on the beach and this shows in their finished apperance, do ask your children to explain.
Year two loved their outside lesson in textiles this week as we took paper and wax crayons outside to find exciting rubbings. The sounds of wonder were great to hear as shapes and patterns appeared like magic on the paper.
Year three got messy in their printmaking lesson as they got to grips with monoprinting. Using a foam slab, printing ink and a special roller, we covered the pad. Using a lolly stick we gently scrapped away some of the ink into patterns or pictures. We then pressed this onto paper to reveal our prints.
Year four designed their money container in their DT lesson, taking a small break from sewing to design our purse, thinking about what we will need to make it. Please practise threading a needle and sewing at home (I have told the children, if they need to borrow a needle etc, they can come to me).
Year five looked at the Fauvist Painters, Matisse and Derain. Looking at the bold and bright colours they used instead of realistic, natural colours. We drew pictures of chairs and enlarged our favourite one, using oil pastels, we practised blending one colour into the next. We will be using paints to do this next week.
Year six were very excited to come into the Create room to find it all ready for our mask making adventure. Balloons, paper and tape filled the tables. We worked in pairs to cover the balloon in Brown Gummed Paper, twice. This will be split in half when dry for next week to add the modifications.
Art Club met for their second session and created themselves as superheroes. Lots of laughter and chat filled the room as they discussed their super powers.
The Blue Peter wall is filling up again, as children are recieving their special badges. India in year five brought in anouther badge this week, this time a very colourful music Blue Peter badge. If you watch the brilliant Blue Peter show and would like to earn a badge, all details are on their website. Bring your badge to me in the Create room and tell me how you earned it and claim your place on the Blue Peter wall of fame.
Have a great weekend and more fabulous Art will be waiting for you next week. Stay safe.
God Bless
Mrs Curtis
