Art News… Spring 2, Week 1.
Welcome back. Hopefully you all had a lovely half term break and are ready for our seven week half term leading to Easter. It was lovely seeing everyone come back refreshed and ready for action, it’s a busy half term of learning and fun.
In Art…
Reception looked at ‘Circles’ by Wassily Kandinsky and using watercolour paints created their own version in the colours they chose.
Year one had their first painting lesson as we found out why I don’t use water to clean brushes between colours, we use an artist’s rag. To do this we became scientists to discover the effects of water on our school poster paints. Using a pippette (the children have taken theirs home with them) we added water bit by bit to see the paint get diluted and faint. Next week, we use our artist’s rags.
Year two looked at kandinsky’s artwork, how emotion and colour go together. We used the primary colours and mixed one secondary colour of our choice and painted with a thin brush a shape and filled it with a larger brush, using the brush as our pencil to draw with paint.
Year three looked at paint charts in their painting session, the different shades and the names given to them. We chose a primary colour and added white to it, bit by bit, we painted each shade we created . We then added just a dot of black to our paint and watched that change much quicker. Next week we will name our paint chart colours, before starting our new lesson.
Year four had this week to complete their money containers. They had to check ther seams were sewn, the fastening worked and it was decorated as planned. Everyone was super focused and worked so hard offering each other advice and support. Next week we evaluate. *Our next topic is Textiles and every child will need a white tshirt in school the week after next (please send them in named, asap). This is for our tie dying. When completed, the children will be able to wear these on PE days and show how fabulous they look. Thank you for all your help and support as usual.
Year five started their new design technology topic, Cams. We learned what they are, what they do and how. We will be designing and making a space themed moving toy, operated by a cam. We constructed our frame and next week we will measure and cut our axle and follower. We will be using saws and hot glue guns, so we also had a talk about safety and looking after eachother.
Year six started their new topic, painting and looked at the coastline paintings by Patrick Heron. We discussed his way of painting, what the colours might mean and how our emeotions can be expressed with colour. We chose either watercolours or oil pastels to create some art in his style, preping for next week’s big paint.
Art Club. Group four met up for the first time and made pom pom poppers, these are great fun and always a favourite with the children. They will have another four weeks with me creating some fun art.
Have a great weekend, hopefully the weather will be kind to us, fingers crossed. Stay safe.
God Bless
Mrs Curtis
