Year 2 Weekly Blog 13.5.22 - "It's never too early to begin exploring the world"

WOW - what a busy week it’s been! This week has been a slightly different one due to the Year 6 SATS taking place in the hall, which has meant that we have partnered up with Year 1 for some of our morning learning. From building to problem solving, story making to lots of PE out on the field, the children have absolutely loved it and have coped so well with the changes to our timetable. Take a look at the photographs below to see what they’ve been getting up to.

Once we’ve returned back to class, normal learning has then resumed as we’ve continued with our English and Maths learning. The children took on the roles of the different characters within Aladdin before writing their own diaries from the view point of Jasmine. We’ve also continued practising telling the time to 5 minute intervals in maths.

In RE, we heard the story of the Ascension and the promise that Jesus made. We then thought about all of the wonderful things that we can remember Jesus for and thanked Jesus by writing our own special prayers. We then shared these in a lovely prayer and liturgy.

And finally …. we all had a superb day on our trip to ‘Bring Yer Wellies’ yesterday. The sun shone on us all as we planted, played, built and even raced our own little boats along the steam. All of the children were incredibly sensible and really polite; well done Year 2, I couldn’t be prouder. I think a big sleep was definitely needed by all last night!

Let’s Celebrate

Thank you for being such a Co-operative Roger Robin this week Ciaran!  You have been heard speaking with great respect towards your friends and have been a super help in our classroom; helping to tidy up and organise things.  You were such a great listener on our trip to ‘Bring Yer Wellies’ yesterday and followed every instruction sensibly and carefully.  Thank you Ciaran!

Lily – you have been a real ‘Don’t Give Up Sadie Spider’ this week!  Learning should never be easy and this week you have been presented with challenges that have pushed you out of your comfort zone.  You found writing Jasmine’s diary difficult this week and I know you wanted to give up.  However, after asking for a little help you pushed through and amazed us with what you achieved.  Well done!

Notices

Just a little reminder that on June 8th we are celebrating in style with a Red White and Blue Day. At lunch time we will enjoy a whole school picnic outside on the field (let’s pray for a sunny day!). Jacqui, our school cook, has ordered special lunchboxes which will be filled with a picnic feast. If your child already has school lunches, you need to do nothing. However, if your child normally brings their own packed lunch, you can order a special picnic box by pressing here and completing a form. This must be paid for in advance on ParentPay at a cost of £2.35. Forms need to be completed by 8pm on Friday 13th May.

Stanley Park Trip - On Thursday 30th June, we will be going on a trip to Stanley Park which can now be paid for via ParentPay. I will be posting more information regarding the trip after the holidays.

Well done Plessington, you were awarded the most learning points this term and so can come to school in your house colour on Friday 20th May.

Enjoy the weekend.
God Bless,
Miss Woodend and the rest of the Year 2 team
