Year 2 Weekly Blog 17.6.22 - "In life, there is no such thing as impossible; it's always possible!"

What a glorious week of sunshine we have had! On Tuesday it felt so special to have the school community back together again as we celebrated Year 1 and Year 2’s sports day! What a fantastic afternoon it was. The children jumped, sprinted and ran their way round the different challenges before participating in the class relays at the end. It was wonderful to see so many smiles on faces and hear joyous cheers as the children encouraged their teammates to go that little bit faster. Thank you to all of the parents and families too. Having you there made the event a huge success and I’m sure that you were just as proud of the children as I was. Well done Harcourt for winning the Year 1 and Year 2 events!
The results for the whole school are also in …..
1st Plessington
2nd Harcourt
3rd Marden
4th Bamber

A big well done to Plessington but also to everyone for their amazing participation and enthusiasm!

In Science this week we have continued learning all about plants. We learnt all about what plants need to survive before placing cress seeds in different positions around our classroom to see how their growth is affected. We’re going to check back on the plants weekly to observe how they’re getting on. On Thursday, we then looked at plant life cycles and how plants continue to grow and grow in the wonderful world around us.

Money has continued to be our focus in Maths lessons. We have become really confident when adding amounts together and are now able to select different coins to make the same amounts.

We even managed to squeeze in another wonderful child-led prayer and liturgy session on Thursday morning! It’s always lovely during busy weeks to take time to stop, reflect and spend some quiet time with God.

Let’s Celebrate

You have been such a ‘Don’t Give Up Sadie Spider’ this week Jiana!  You have listened really carefully during lessons and you have produced some great pieces of work.  It has been wonderful to see you focusing straight away during independent learning, resulting in more activities being completed, and you have been able to move on to those really tricky challenges.  Well done!

Lorenzo – I have been so incredibly proud of you this week.  You have maintained such a positive attitude and seem to have smiled your way to Friday!  You showed great sportsmanship towards your teammates during our sports day events and even cheered on your friends in other teams too.  Great work Lorenzo!  Keep smiling – it’s so great to see!

Notices

Trip to Stanley Park - On Thursday 30th June, we will be going on our outdoor adventure trip to Stanley Park. This will include using the low ropes and a mole holing experience! We will be leaving school at approximately 9:15am and will be back at school by 1:00pm, ready for our lunchtime. As we are only going for the morning, children will be having their lunch as normal in school. On this day, children must wear their school tracksuit/PE kit with comfortable trainers. Hopefully, the weather will be sunny so sunhats and sun cream will be needed (labelled as we’ll collect these in before we go). As the weather can also be very unpredictable, please do ensure that your child has a light waterproof with them, as we will be outside all morning with no cover. Children can bring their usual morning snack, but again please do label these as I will collect these from the children before we go. Children must also have their water bottles with them on this day. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.

Gym Jam Jog - Next week Friday 24th is our ANNUAL GYM JAM JOG (sadly postponed since 2019!) Below are the details for all joggers, old and new:

  • The children are invited to school in their PYJAMAS plus cuddly friend.

  • We arrive super early!!! The gates will open at 8 o'clock.

  • The children are then invited to run with their friends or their parent (pyjamas not essential). It is important that you count the laps.

This is a sponsored event. There has been much debate at school council level about what the children want in their playground and they want a castle!

A place where imaginations can run wild! Needless to say, we need money for the build - we know as a community we can do this!

Use the sponsor form sent home this weekend to ask family and friends to sponsor you for each lap or to donate on the promise that you will jog your heart out!!!

We will jog right up until school starts when we will say goodbye to parents and jog into class - ready for breakfast!

We can't wait to share another event with the whole school family together!

Have a wonderful weekend!
God Bless
Miss Woodend and the rest of the Year 2 team
