Welcome to Year 1

It has been lovely meeting the children this week, they have settled in well and are learning our new routine.

This week we read the Colour Monster and discussed our emotions and how they made us feel. We will continue talking about our feelings and what we can do to help ourselves calm down if we are feeling upset, anxious, etc. We made our own colour monsters, selecting our own colours we associated with that emotion and discussing when we felt like that.

We started our English and Maths lessons this week, we independently wrote an ‘I can’ sentence. We loved discussing all the different things we could do and using our phonics knowledge to help us write each word. In Maths we have been recapping how many different ways to make 5, using a range of practical resources.

The children have loved our new shop role play area, we have started to make labels and price tags to decorate our shop.

New Year Mass

On Thursday we shared a lovely welcome mass with our school community to pray for our year ahead. We also gave thanks for all mothers as it is Our Lady’s birthday this Sunday. Well done to all of the children, they were brilliant in church.
