It has been such a special and reflective week in Year 4. Yesterday evening, children made their first Reconciliation. They were so reverent and today, have said they feel ‘light as a feather,’ as though they have been ‘hugged by God!’ We are also learning in class about Jesus’ great sacrifice as we find out about the events of Holy Week. Many children were moved to tears as they learned about Jesus’ agony in the Garden of Gethsemane. We have started to rehearse our portrayal of this for the class assembly.
We have had such interesting discussions in History this week. Children learned about where Anglo-Saxons settled first in England by looking at the burial sites of cremation urns. They then learned about the most famous Anglo-Saxon discovery - a ship burial at Sutton Hoo. They had to be historians and discover who was the owner of this empty grave by looking at the artefacts found in it.
In maths this week we are now thinking about making numbers ten times the size and have been learning how to multiply teen numbers by partitioning. Children are amazed at what they can do and how easy it is when you have your tables facts at hand!
In Science, we have learned about weathering and erosion of rocks which we will see evidence of on our rock trip next Tuesday. Let’s pray we don’t have any more of the terrible rain!
Let’s Celebrate!
This week, a Bobby Bee certificate has gone to Millie for blossoming in self-belief. You are always so enthusiastic and participate fully in all learning.
Bella received a Cooper Crab certificate for being such a determined, focused learner who gets her tasks done and learns with intention.
Ella received a Roger Robin certificate for being such a kind friend who shows so much love to others. No matter who you work with Ella, you are so supportive and lovely.
Music stars were Elsie and Millie
PE stars Arthur and Sophia - super focus and effort
Swimming Stars were Jacob and Sophia for super starfishes!
Grateful and Generous butterflies
This week we thank Riley for cheering people up if they feel down - being generous with his humour and Pippa for having such a lovely, generous heart.
Notices
Unfortunately there have been a few incidences of snack items going missing from children’s trays and lunchboxes, then empty wrappers are found. I have asked all children to make sure their breaktime snacks are in their tray in the morning and will be monitoring each day to make sure each child has their own snack. Please could we talk to children about the importance of only eating their own snacks.
Also, a number of children could not find their homework books so have been given new ones. Please could all homework books be handed in each Thursday, with sheets stuck in.
Tuesday - Our Rock trip to the beach and Year 4 sponsored event. This is our walk and litter pick on Tuesday. Please could children bring their packed lunch in a strong plastic bag (which they can use to carry rocks back.) Jackie will make lunches for all school dinner children - so they just need to bring a plastic bag.
Also please could they bring £2 to buy an ice-cream. Please could all sponsor money and form be brought in for Tuesday. Thanks so much in advance. It will all go to CAFOD.
Swimming - Final session on Thursday - no pyjamas. We are so pleased at how the children have come on.
Class assembly - Tuesday 4th April at 9:10am
Egg Decorating competition. Please see the main blog page for details about this. This week, children can draw their egg design in homework books ready to make next week.

Have a lovely weekend with your families.
