Year 3 Weekly Blog 2.2.24 ‘You are the peace in my troubled sea.’

Class Worship was led this week by Heath, Nathan and Liam, their chosen theme was They read beautifully the story of The Enormous Fish Jonah 1:17and shared prayer they had written. As a class we sang Shine Jesus Shine and My Lighthouse. Thank you for leading our worship boys, you will be our prayer monitors next week. Next Wednesday Bea, Joseph and Martha will lead our class worship.

In RE we have read the Parable of the Sower, we retold the story in our own words and thought about it’s meaning. The children thought carefully and were able to give examples people who they thought listened carefully to what Jesus said and follow his teaching everyday. Our word of the week has been ‘Teacher’, we have recognised that we are all teachers and can be role models to those around us. We thought about who teaches us - not just our teachers but our trusted adults at home and the older children in school who set us such a good example.

In English we have have been working really hard writing our adapted Iron Man stories. The children have created new characters and new ways to trap their Iron characters. We have been focusing on using the correct tense for verbs in our writing and making them more effective by adding adverbs.

In Maths we have been comparing and ordering fractions by looking at the denominator. The children learned that when looking at unit-fractions, the greater the denominator, the smaller the fraction. The children have continued to impress us with their multiplication fluency. Each Thursday we update our Rockstar display in the classroom and it’s so wonderful to see the children getting closer to Rock Legend status each week! Keep going Year 3!

In Geography the children learned about the famous cities and landmarks of Italy. In groups they researched a given city and acted as travel agents, sharing what they had learned with the rest of the class.

In Science the children investigated which materials were insulators and conductors. They made a simple circuit and tested a range of materials including sponge, cork, plastic, wood, aluminum foil and cardboard.
Next week will will be starting to make model Iron Men heads with real light up eyes, this will be a creative end to our Iron Man Topic in English but a fun way to end our Science electricity topic by including simple circuits to light up the Iron Man’s eyes. Although we have been collecting tissue boxes and similar size cardboard boxes we are still a few short - we would be really grateful if children could bring in clean empty tissue box size boxes ready for us to transform into Iron Men heads.

The children became quiz masters in computing, first completing a short quiz on email safety before having a go at making their own email safety quizzes on Purple Mash. Online safety is more important than ever with children and young people having so much access to the internet and is an area we revisit every computing lesson, instilling in the children how important it is to keep safe online and to always tell a trusted adult if anything doesn’t feel right or gives them yucky feeling. Next Tuesday is Safer Internet Day - everyday next week we will have a short class session on internet safety, exploring how we use the internet at home and at school, talking about how much time we spend on the internet and most importantly how we can keep safe.
