Worship
Our class worship was led by Freddie, Bella and Jude. We enjoyed listening to the story of Isaac and his two sons, Esau and Jacob (Genesis 27). We listened to how Jacob tricked his Dad into thinking he was Esau which led to their Dad sharing information that wasn’t meant for him. We thought about how Dad must have felt when he realised he had been tricked.
On Thursday we watched the Mark 10 Mission episode here. We saw how Jesus watched as a poor woman puts two copper coins in the Temple money box. It doesn't seem like much but Jesus knows that this is everything she has. We listened to the Gospel and Greg helped us to think about what we can give to Jesus. We prayed together and then sang a new song called "Praise" I’ve popped a link below for the mission file to accompany the liturgy below. If you’re not able to print at home they will be available in class for the children to bring home and enjoy with you.
Our learning this week…
Maths - Full steam ahead - We’ve started a new unit work this week and have been focusing on counting on and back crossing 100. We’ve counted in 1s and 10s and we’ve been really speedy. We’ve been looking at number sequences and spotting patterns that have enabled us to continue them or in some cases spot the mistakes. I’ve opened up the next level on Numbots - I know a lot of children were disappointed at the restricted access they had, but the extra practise has helped them get really speedy with their number bonds and has been a great advantage when we’ve done our classwork.
English - We’ve finished our first drafts of our Paddington chapters, I cannot wait to read about Paddington’s mishaps with a cup of hot chocolate this weekend! Next week we’ll be writing our final versions ready to be ‘published’ in our own Year 3 Paddington book. We’ve met Olga Da Ploga and left the story on a cliff hanger. Who has bought her? Where is she going?
Science - We have continued learning about soil but a little more closely! In small groups we studied samples of soil, first we made predictions about what we thought we might find in our samples, then recorded our observations once we had had a good look. I was really impressed with how sensible the children were - we had a class chat before hand about the importance of making sure we weren’t touching our faces, mouths or each other whilst handling soil. We talked about important of washing our hands properly after our investigation. We had a great lesson and we’re certainly looking forward to lots more practical lessons like this in the future. Well done Year 3.
Geography - We have been learning all about the cardinal points on a compass - North, South, East and West. We labeled our own compasses then headed outside onto the playground to find out what we could see when we faced each direction. The children worked in pairs with compasses and recorded their findings.
Spelling - The focus spelling focus this week is homophones - see our homework page. We’ve played lots of games and learnt strategies to help us distinguish between the word that sound the same but have different spellings and meanings.
