Worship
Luca, Eliza and Ruth led our worship on Tuesday. We listen to the story of son Joseph and his beautiful coloured coat (Genesis 37). His brother were jealous of him and sold him to market traders for only 20 coins. We were shocked that they valued money more than their brother’s life. We thought about what we value in life and what is important to us.
On Thursday we watched the Mark 10 Mission episode here. This week we spoke about how Jesus is a king and celebrated this and crowned him as the king of our hearts. Greg helped us to reflect upon the two crowns of Jesus and leads us to prayerfully ask "Will I invite Jesus to be the king of my heart?" We then sang our praises to Jesus the king with the hymn "Sing Hosanna!"
In RE we’ve been learning about The Holy Mass and it’s parts. We spoke about why we go to Church on Sunday and thought about how the scripture ‘You are precious in my eyes’ (Isaiah 43;4) makes us feel and how it helps us to understand our relationship with God.
Our learning this week…
Maths - This week we have focused on adding single digit numbers and bridging across hundreds boundaries. We used our knowledge of number bonds to help us bride to 100. It has been fantastic to hear the children using stem sentences so confidently to explain their working. We’ve practised adding and subtracting ten to multiples of ten. Lots of brain growth and lightbulb moments this week! Well done Year 3!
English - We’ve continued our Green Children unit of work, our grammar focus this week has been speech. We have identified speech in the stories we have read, put the speech in speech bubbles and thought about words we can use instead of said. I wonder how many words you can think of to use instead of said at home!
Spelling - The focus spelling focus this week is suffix ‘ous’. We have played lots of detective games in class to the Pink Panther Theme tune! We are experts at adding ‘ous’ to root words.
We’ve looked at maps of Lancashire in Geography, pinpointed St Annes and them wrote statements using the words North, South, East and West eg, St Annes is further north than Rochdale. Blackpool is further west than Bolton.
In French we have learnt the name of shapes and written written sentences about shapes and their colours. We learnt that in french the adjectives comes after the noun, in english we say a ‘It is a red circle’ but in french we say ‘c’est un cercle rouge.’ I wonder if your children can remember what a cognate is? Here’s a clue…orange and rectangle are cognates.
We’ve braved the cold and been outside for PE, please ensure your child has suitable warm clothing for PE - we will still be going outside for PE unless the weather is really bad. Please send in hats and gloves. This week we continued practising our throwing and catching skills and built up to a bench ball style game.
