Worship
Our first Advent liturgy was led this week by Xander, Scarlet, Jack and Isla. They spoke about the real meaning of Christmas and how we can remind others of this.We thought about our Advent promises and how we are fulfilling these.
On Thursday we watched the Mark 10 Mission episode. We meet one of the important people of this season, St John the Baptist. We heard how he went into the desert and told the people 'Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.' Greg helped us understand that St John is also shouting this to us and inviting us to make a straight path for Jesus. We listened to the Advent Hymn O Come O Come Emmanuel. There are copies of this week mission file in the classroom for the children to help themselves to.
In RE we looked in detail at the Advent wreath and what each candle represents, we have made our own wreath in the classroom with our hands. Each week we will be adding advents candles. We spoke about the shape of an advent wreath - a circle and how this has no beginning or end, just like God’s love for us.
Our learning this week…
Maths - We’ve made a great start on our measurements unit of work, we have been looking at metres and centimetre and their relationship. We have been thinking about the best unit of measure to use when measuring objects big and small. We used what we knew to make sensible estimates of measurement.
English - We’ve continued reading The Greenling Story and made prdeictions about what we think will happen next. We’ve compared to it to other stories or films it reminds us of.
Spelling - The focus spelling focus this week is common exception words - see homework blog.
Geography- On Thursday we revisted previous learning from Year 2 and spoke about human and physical feature. We looked at human and phsical features around the UK in Edinburgh, Wales, London and Northern Ireland and then identified human and physical features in our local area.
Computing -On Monday the children built on their previous coding skill and learnt how to use the repeat command when coding. I’ve been really impressed with how quickly the children have picked up the skills in this unit - it’s not always easy! They have shown what good problem solver and team workers they are when solving problems they encounter.
Christmas Concert Practise
Please encourage your children to keep practising our Christmas Concert songs at home - it’ll soon be here. There are 3 video on this weeks homework blog with all the songs we have been learning.
Next week we will be spening quite a lot of time in church practising ready for our special performance, please ensure your children are sent to school with a suitable waterproof coat. They children may aloso bring into school a book from home that they would like to read inbetweeen songs at our rehersals.

Reminders and Notices
Friday 13th December - Christmas Bake Off
Monday 16th December at 2pm and 6pm - Christmas Carol Concert at Church
Christmas cards - It’s that time of year! We’re asking children not to send individual cards to their class friends, if your child would like to send a card please send one card to the whole class. Let’s look after our common home and save paper.
Class Christmas Tree - our tree is up! If you have a spare bauble or decoration at home that we can add to our tree it would be very much appreciated. Whilst the tree looks lovely it is very ‘me’ and I’d like for the children to feel it is theirs by adding their own decorations.
Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Naylor and Miss Hennessy
