Year 2 Blog Friday 1st November "To begin is for everyone- to persevere is for saints." St. Josemaria Escriva

It is great to get back into the learning once more!

In RE we have a new topic Promise and Prophecy. We started with the story of Zachariah - who was visited by and angel. Freddie and Olivia Heyes helped me to dramatise the story. The angel delivered a promise from God that he and his wife would have a baby boy! He was shocked and questioned this - in response the angel took away his ability to speak! The children then pretended to be Zachariah and wrote down what had happened in the temple so his wife would understand! The children wrote really detailed descriptions! As planned we visited Father Peter in Church on Thursday morning. Firstly, we attended mass with the people of the parish and then Father baptised Annabelle’s baby doll “Alex” at the font. The children showed how knowledgeable they were about the baptismal symbols We want to send out a massive thank you to Father and our wonderful volunteer mums who were able to join us!

On Tuesday Matilda, Annabelle and Henry lead us in a beautiful class worship

MAGIC MOMENTS

We have dived straight back into the learning! We began our investigations into food chains in science, then in maths we compared and ordered numbers to 100. In English we completed our daily spelling challenges - there are so many graphemes for “or”!!! We have written sentences using the subordinate conjunction “before” and continued with our oral story telling. Today we moved from geography to history and found out who Florence Nightingale was. In DT we completed our windmills and we have all completed the star reader assessment so our ZPD codes should have moved up. We continued with Our Happy Mind lesson, we are now learning about “character”. We know we are all unique, but what character strengths do we have and which could we work harder at? With two trips to church (All Saints day) - it has been a truly busy week!

GOING DEEPER - CONVERSATION STARTER

Can you solve this puzzle - What number am I?

My previous multiple of ten is 60 and my next multiple of ten is 70

My ones digit is even

My tens and ones digits add to make 10

LET’S CELEBRATE:

This week the Learning Certificates go to:

Eliana -You have listened so carefully to all the learning and applied what you have learnt. Sometimes to the teacher zones in to one pupil to help (as I did with you) and you responded to me so positively! Then in a later session you explained to another child a misunderstanding that you had previously had. The way you explained showed how well you had understood- brilliant!

Frank -Thank you Frank for having the confidence to really think outside the box – trust your own understanding and use jottings to help guide your way. Thank you too for letting me share your thinking in maths with the whole class, I know it helped everyone. Brilliant!

Our new virtues are Intentional and Prophetic and this week- for his intentional kindnesses- it goes to Seamus.

LUNCHTIME AWARDS:
