Our RE this week has focused very much on retelling the Christmas story. The children have been working together as a team in the hall. Sadly the Innkeepers, Shepherds and Angel Gabriel have not yet arrived! On Monday we will return to the fields around Bethlehem and make sure this pat of the story is well rehearsed. Not only are we retelling our parts of the story, but we have started to guide Year 1 too. It is a big responsibility to support others that might need a little help with their confidence. The singing is coming along wonderfully - this is a form of prayer and I know that the heavens have noticed us!
At assembly this week Mrs Gregan asked us to reflect on this question “If you could be King what would you do?” We placed this question on our worship table. Here are a few images of the children answering that question! This weekend is the feast day of Christ the King.
MAGIC MOMEMTS OF LEARNING
We have tackled some tricky spellings this week - contractions. We have been reading the words and recognizing how the apostrophe replaced the letters when we squeeze words together! In the other English lessons we focused reading skills. We made predictions, practiced decoding and then we thought about summarizing. The book we read wa Yoshi the Stonecutter - we learnt that it isn’t good to be greedy! It’s been fun in maths as we played games. All these games reinforced our number facts particularly near doubling! Science has been exciting as we took our learning to the zoo (see pictures below). We know what a carnivore, omnivore and herbivore is and we are food chain experts! In history we reflected on the achievements of Florence Nightingale- what was her greatest achievement? We have enjoyed PE and our DT with Mrs Mather has really made us think. Working with Miss Lavelle was a highlight of the week too - we smashed our first lesson on spreadsheets and when Mrs Hotchkiss came back we bowled her over with our shape knowledge!
GOING DEEPER - IN CONVERSATION
What is your greatest achievement? Florence Nightingale had real ambition, even when she was very young. What do you hope to do? What dream do you have? Write it on a piece of paper and put it somewhere special. Keep it in mind and set yourself on the path of achieving it! I’m sure your adults would love to share their greatest achievement and how they made it come to pass!
LET’S CELEBRATE
This week our Learning Awards went to:
Theo - Roger Robin -
Thank you for being a respectful member of our learning family
Daniel - Bobby Bee -
A wonderful memory, a kind heart and a real desire to learn.
Virtue - Maya - for intentionally helping out a friend.
Dinner Time Awards: Marvellous Manner- Annabelle and Role Model Ronnie
REMINDERS
When learning lines could you make sure the children know which line they come after - this prevents any necessity to prompt. Really appreciate all your help with the play!
Next Friday - OWN CLOTHES DAY - you can wear your own clothes if you bring a lovely chocolate bar into school. These will be collected and be part of the lovely hampers we are making for our Christmas Raffle!
Nativity tickets - your child came home two weeks ago with a letter to complete for tickets. Most children have returned this to school with the monies. In turn these children have been given their tickets in a clearly labelled envelope (please check bags). If you have mislaid the envelope, please pop into the office and Mrs Nel will help.
Have a lovely weekend form the whole Year 2 team
