Our RE and prayer this week has been focused on “getting ready”. On Monday, Tuesday and Thursday we continued to stage our Nativity. It is not a short play! We have now reached the stable and next week is all about remembering our parts and polishing our performances. While many of us were in the hall others stayed behind to complete a special task. We were asked by the library service to make Christmas cards. These are special cards that are placed in Christmas book boxes which go out to the elderly - books to keep them company over Christmas. Inside each box the library service likes to place a card. This year the cards have been made by Year 1 and 2. We did a lovely job! Then on Thursday we spent time reflecting on Advent and how special this time is before the baby arrives. We talked about being kind and helpful before Christmas showing that we are loving each other just as God wants us to. After this discussion we made Advent promises which will be displayed in the hall throughout Advent. On Friday when the children go home a little army of elves (teachers) will decorate the school all for the coming of this special child - we are ready for this special season!
MAGIC LEARNING MOMENTS
The maths has gone really well this week. The children are learning how the representations are all connected and we have done some fantastic number line jumping! Further to this, we started to lay out our equations in our books - one number one square - we cracked this straight away. Our handwriting is coming on a treat and we tackled homophones in spelling- not that easy! In history we have designed a plaque for a Florence Nightingale statue. We were only allowed to use 30 words for the plague no more and no less! We tackled deeper questions in science as our topic on “Habitats” came to an end and we played more 20th century games in PE. Miss Lavelle was so excited on Wednesday not only with the children’s spreadsheet work, but also their confidence with 3-d shapes - the children smashed it! Similarly, in DT Mrs Mather had a ball. She has taken photos of us at work (see below). We have been making structures to sit on! What fun we have had and what wonderful problem solving! Finally, we reflected on this terms My Happy Mind lessons. In these we have learnt about character. There are many character traits, some we seem to just have and others we can work on. This week we have made character awards - not for teachers to give out but for the children to award at our class council each week. Tomorrow Bamber (different house each week) will be awarding children for kindness and bravery/honesty - they are excited about this new role.
GOING DEEPER IN CONVERSATION
This week the children made an Advent promise. Could you reflect on what you could do together during Advent. When my boys were little we read a Christmas story every night. I’m a teacher and access to loads of lovely books. We are all so luck now as these are so accessible on line! The boys loved this as we counted down the night. I have to say that I am rather jealous - as my boys go to bed after me now!!!
