Magic moments

RE

In RE this week we recapped the shepherds story. We discussed the sequence of events and used this knowledge to correctly cut out and stick our images in the correct order.

It has been another great week with the Travelling Nativity this week, the journal has some beautiful artwork and I have loved receiving so many pictures of you enjoying it as a family, I have then stuck these pictures into the journal for the other children to see.

English

We started out our English this week with a visit to the library! The children had a lovely morning at the library listening to stories being read and even got to write and post a letter for someone special! Lots of children brought their library cards and got to find a book to take home. If your child doesn’t already have a card, I sent home a slip for you to fill in at home and you can take this into the library to get a new card. We had a lot of enthusiastic children who were very excited to get their own card!

We spent the rest of our week thinking of and innovating some characters for our story and reusing our new skill of bullet points to write a list of adjectives.

Maths

Maths this week was all about more than and less than, we compared numbers and then began using representatives to help ourselves form a comparative sentence.

This skill is something we focused on all week to make sure we all had the knowledge secured in our brains ready to move onto something new next week. We made these sessions really practical to help the children to visualise their sentences in front of them.

Science

We continued our study of plants this week, we remembered the different parts of the plant and their jobs and used this knowledge to help us learn all about garden plants. What is a garden plant? Where might you find them?

We ended our lesson with some role play where one person worked at a garden centre and the other was a customer who was looking for a garden plant and instructions on how to look after it. We then looked at daffodil bulbs and described the way it looked and felt. The children were then able to successfully sequence the order in which a daffodil grows.

A conversation starter - if I plated a wild buttercup in my garden, would it still be wild? Why?

Geography

In Geography this week we learnt all about the 5 oceans, we learnt a new song and remembered our song from last week! We began coming up with some mnemonics to help us remember the 5 oceans.

We also went out on a geographical walk this week! We didn’t quite make it to our final destination, as we were slower walkers than I had anticipated, but we managed to use some fantastic geographical vocabulary to spot some human and physical features in St Annes square. We also spotted some deciduous and evergreen trees on our way there!

Conversation starter - can you remember the song about all 5 oceans?

Going deeper.

We finished our my happy mind module for this half term and what a great module it was! The children loved learning the new songs and learning all about their character strengths, we are now looking forward to our next module!

Our happy mind hero this week was Nellie! She helped us to stay happy and calm all week so that we were at our best and ready to learn.

Lets celebrate!

Well done to our certificate winners this week, we have had a reflective learner in Rose and a determined learner in Amara. You have both worked brilliantly this week and we are very proud of you, keep it up.

Our Virtue Star this week goes to…. Sydney! You have been so intentional all week, super focused and ready to learn! You are always making the right choices, Well done!

Our lunchtime winners this week are Cora and Jaxon. Our role model was Jaxon and Cora had excellent manners. Well done you two!

Finally a big happy birthday to Jaxon! We loved celebrating with you in class on Thursday and hope you celebrate some more over the weekend.

Important information and reminders.

Next week is going to be a big week of rehearsals! We have learnt all of our songs and the children sound beautiful singing them, now it is time to put it all together on the stage. So beware, you will have some tired and hard worked children next week, but children full of excitement for the next few weeks to come.

On Friday 29th November it is own clothes day, we ask that you send in a bar of chocolate with your children for this, thank you!

A big thank you to those parents that came to help out on Monday and Tuesday, we appreciated all your help and the children loved seeing their adults out with us in the community.

I hope you have an enjoyable and restful weekend and look forward to seeing you on Monday morning.
