Magic moments
RE
Our class liturgy this week was a lovely session, two children chose some lovely items out of our box and formed discussions around them, these items were a baby Jesus and the story “The Donkey of Nazareth”. We then sang my shine Jesus shine.
We visited Church this week as a part of our Lenten journey with Year 5. Father Peter said how lovely it was to have us and spoke of how well behaved all of the children were. This mass helped us along our journey ready for Holy Week to begin next week.
English and Maths
We read the story “Peter Rabbit the Radish Robber.” this week and worked together to create a story map for this story. Using this story map, we are re writing the story ensuring we use finger spaces, capital letter, punctuation and our connective words.
In Maths we have begun looking at bar models this week! The children understood this very quickly and we discussed how it was similar to the part whole models. We then began looking at the five and a bit structure, the children were great at this too as they have got a strong knowledge of number.
Science and Geography
In Science we recapped all of our knowledge of materials, what the words transparent and opaque mean and used our knowledge of these materials to fill in a table of which material is best for the job. We discussed that towels need to be absorbent but soft, so fabric was the best material for the job. Knives need to be strong and sharp, so metal was the best material for job.
We then ended our week with a revisit to our previous topic - animals. We discussed all the things we have learnt so far and put this into practise with some think hard questions. What features do animals have? They inputted this knowledge onto a table. What does food tell us about animals? We remembered the words carnivore, herbivore and omnivore and their meanings.
In Geography we retrieved all of the knowledge we have learnt this half term with some more think hard questions, the children were able to recall these answers easily! We discussed the equator, what it is and where it is. We also discussed hot and cold locations and the animals that live there.
Conversation starter: What is your favourite fact about animals?
Conversation starter: What would happen if all the opaque things turned transparent?
Going deeper…
As a part of our Lenten journey, Father Peter asked us to do some important things this week:

How can you do these things consistently before Lent finishes? If you have done one of these things, tell us all about it next week! We would love to celebrate your mission.
