Reading
Please ensure you are reading with your child as much as possible, this is the gateway to all learning!
The reading challenge is a hit and the children are coming in so excited and proud when they have completed it for the week. Thank you for the teamwork on this.
Keep using the QR codes at home! If you know your child is struggling with a particular one, repeat this until they are fluent. Over the next couple of weeks we will send home some different ones for you to practise. I have begun doing some more mock screenings and every child I have tested has got a higher score than last time!

Maths
Week 3 of our maths hub work! Please follow the instructions for the games, fill in the diary and leave some comments about how you think this is going.
I have included a chart in every child’s book of some number facts, these are facts your child needs to know before they go into year two. In the blue box in the shape of steps, these are year two facts so they do not need to know these until the end of next year.
We are quizzing the children on these facts at school and if you did this at home too it will only increase their fluency in number facts.
English
I have stuck in a list of the 40 common exception words that your child must be able to spell by the end of year one. As you will notice, our spellings and word sets are based off these words so many of them the children will already know! We haven’t yet finished our spellings, so some are still upcoming. Have a practise of some of the trickier words this week and see if your child knows how to spell them.
I have retested every child on the mock phonics screening and every single one has made significant progress, I am very proud. If you are interested in their scores please ask and I will be happy to let you know.
If you are ever wondering how you can help your child further there are links on the “How to help your child” button that you can access at home. This is on the right hand side of the Year One page.
