Year 2 weekly blog Friday Sept 27th "The Good Shepherd feeds his sheep first"

What an eventful week! I have been away from class for quite a few lessons due to other commitments and I have missed the children! I taught on Monday and returned on Thursday! During that time the children had different teachers to take care of and they did a great job! They were able to share the Hope of God in the stories they have explored in the Old Testament and today we celebrate St Vincent De Paul and Our Lady. It was a very special day not only Our Lady’s feast day but a day when our own shepherd - Bishop Paul - came to celebrate mass and visit school. In class we reflected on Our lady the mother of Our Lord and just how special she all mothers are. We then responded to this in art and words!

On Tuesday Heidi, Frank and Leo led the class in worship. They explained that Jesus was once turned away from a village and was treated badly. The disciples wanted to take revenge- but Jesus was very clear he walked away.

MAGIC MOMENTS

We have some super highlights this week! On Monday we listened to the book “The JollyPostman” We loved reading the letters. Then on Thursday guided my Mrs Gregan we wrote our own letters from Hansel and Gretal - pleading with their father to come and get them. I am very excited about reading them all this weekend. In Geography we learnt some tricky vocabulary and we thought hard as geographers to identify physical features (occurring naturally) in St. Annes. Frank was great, he explained that there is a river and it has to run into the sea and Benjamin explained that volcanoes are also physical features. We are lucky not to have one of those here in St. Annes. Then today we completed a celebratory day all about Our Lady on this her Feast Day. These are just a few of the learning highlights from this week! Well done everyone. Finally on Thursday Mrs Gregan led session 4 of Kids Safe when explored keeping private places on our bodies safe and the rules. Here is the letter for you to accompany the learning

GOING DEEPER-

Letters we don’t often write letters. Can you think of someone who would love a letter. Why not write it and pop to the post office to post it! You could make KS a birthday card and send it in the post to school - write a lovely message telling him what you have learnt in his sessions! We’ll open them in class. Address:

LET’S CELEBRATE

This week our learning certificates went to:

ARTHUR -

Arthur thank you for working so hard in your reading sessions. You are growing in confidence each week. You are trying so hard to track the teaching and have a go at questions too – well done.

BENJAMIN T

Benjamin – Mrs Carragher and Miss Slater spotted your alert thinking when I was away this week. But when I returned on Thursday and dived into the Geography – you were right with me. You were thinking outside the box when we explored possible physical features those that occur naturally. You were absolutely right when you said volcanoes!!!

Our Virtue STAR - attentive and discerning is EMILIA

LUNCHTIME AWARDS: Role Model - Frank  and Marvelous Manners Ruby

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

We will be out next Wednesday afternoon for our Geography field trip around St. Annes. Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to come. I’ll be emailing you details shortly. The weather forecast is presently good but chilly. PE kits would be best plus coats and a woolly hat. We’ll be leaving school at 1:00 and returning before hometime.

More trips out. I have some more dates for trips out. Ideally I need three extra adults for each. The dates are:

Thursday 31st October 9:00- 11:00 - Visiting church. Father Peter will be performing a mock baptism for us so that we can see what we have learnt in class in action at the font. If you have a doll suitably realistic and you think a baptism would be of benefit - let me know.

Friday November 15th 10:30 (for 45 mins) - we are joining the parish coffee morning at the parish centre.

Friday 22nd November - visit to Blackpool Zoo - please note not yet on parent pay (I’ll let you know when). All day.

HARVEST - Harvest Mass is in a fortnight on Friday 11th October. We will be collecting for the food bank as a whole school. Year 2 have been asked to bring in TINNED VEG. We will be making a display on our little classroom altar.

Thank you for all the lovely homework, the healthy snacks and the names on jumpers!

Have a lovely weekend form the whole Year 2 team!
