Year 1 Weekly Blog - Friday 6th September. A fantastic first week!

Religious Education

We have had a big focus this week on our class rules and safety, the children worked together to come up with six important rules that we must follow and signed their name to agree to follow these rules. We have also had a discussion about what a good class looks like and how we can carry this out during lessons, choosing time and play time. So far the whole class has been fantastic at this part and we have no doubts that these friendships and respect for each other will only blossom further.

Mr Cornwell and Mrs Hartley are introducing new provision on the plaground for play time from next week, including den building, a scooter zone and a creative zone to name a few, the children came up with more rules on how we can be fair and safe during this time, ensuring we are being the best we can be.

This morning we attended our first school mass of the year, the children walked spectacularly with their buddies and sat beautifully throughout the mass. This has already begun our journey on completing the STAR Charter by the end of the year. We had a focus on light during mass, how we can be light for those around us. The children sang beautifully together and showed the Church just how sensible we can be.

Magic Moments.

We have had a wonderful first week together and the adults are all very impressed with how well the children have behaved and how much they have remembered over the summer! We have no doubts that this is the start of a fantastic year together.

We have started our week off strong with lots of creativity, English, Maths, HRSE and Phonics lessons to get us all going.

We have created self portraits, designed a birthday card for a friend in our class and created a special star for our worship area. We have been creative in our outdoor area by building a den, using the fence to create a skipping game, created structures out of lego and made our own roads for cars. We have worked fantastically as a team all week long and I am excited to see just how creative these children can get.

In English we began with some simple sentences and used adjectives to describe a monster, the children were all very creative with their descriptions and each table spotted something different. In maths we began looking at one more and one less and our number bonds to ten. We did such fantastic work in these lessons that we managed to fill up our “Star Jar” and the children chose a dance together as a reward.

In order to celebrate our work further in class we have created a “positivity board”, when collecting your children this will be the first wall you see when looking in, make sure to keep an eye out for your childs name next to their fantastic piece of work. There is also a notice board up here for any information you might need to know.

Conversations for home

In HRSE this week we began talking about trust and feelings, we played a game of trust with five of our friends by keeping one of those people safe from falling - each group completed this successfully and came away happy as they earnt the trust of their friends. The children then identified feelings as being “yukky” and what to do if we feel this way - we have a class calming corner and the children decided this was the place to go to when they were having sad feelings. I have attached a letter at the end of this blog for you to read up about what we have learnt so far.

Lets celebrate

I would like to celebrate every child in Year One today as we have all worked together so hard by following the rules and being kind to one another. We have had lots of changes this year and the children have managed brilliantly and adjusted to our new routines so quickly!

Important information

We have created a reading pack for every child in the class and these will be sent home on Tuesday evening. Each child will recieve a Phonics reading book, spellings, handwriting and homework every Tuesday and this will be due in the following Monday. In due course the children will also receive an AR reader book.

Induction night is taking place on Wednesday 18th September, you are all welcome to come and meet me (if you haven’t already) and have a look at the classroom your child will be in this year. There are two slots for you to choose from: 3:45pm until 4:40pm and another at 4:45pm until 5:30pm.

A reminder that the gates open at 8.45am and close at 8.55am for morning drop offs, they will reopen at 3.25pm for collection.

I have attached below two forms for you to fill in by Monday, the first is a parental consent form, this enables us to use images of your child on the website. The second is a medical information form for any information that we need to be aware of, or if you have already sent in inhalers. Thank you!

I hope you have a restful and enjoyable weekend and I look forward to greeting your happy faces on Monday morning!
