‘You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.’

This week we have been creative Kiki Chameleons, across the curriculum. We have been challenging our thinking in maths, with our tens and ones and in English we’ve let our imaginations run free!

What have we been learning this week?

In Maths the children have been learning about numbers 11-20. They have been representing numbers in lots of different ways and describing them using the language of tens and ones. They used place value charts to show how many tens and ones a number has e.g. 1 ten and 4 ones is equal to 14.

In English we have started reading the story of Where the Wild Things are. We wrote a setting description for a forest together, using our senses. The children then wrote a jungle description independently. Their choice of adjectives was amazing and made their writing so visual!

In Science the children have been describing an object, the material it is made from and the properties of that material. Their scientific vocabulary is amazing. I wonder if they can show you the difference between transparent and opaque at the weekend?

Hip-Hip-Hooray!

Certificates

Creative Kiki Chameleons: For their incredible jungle writing! This week it was impossible to choose two children, when every child in Year One has shone so brightly in their learning. Year One you have all blown me away with your amazing adjectives and beautiful cursive handwriting. You should all be so proud of how much you have improved since you started in Year One. Keep letting your imaginations run free and believing in yourselves! We will celebrate this achievement next Friday with a special treat!

Parents’ Meetings

I would like to invite you to a virtual parents’ meeting to discuss your child and to celebrate their achievements. I will be using the same system we used in the Autumn called SchoolCloud .

This platform has no app for you to install, you simply use your web browser, and you will be automatically connected with me at the time you have booked in the appointment schedule. Each appointment will be ten minutes and start at the allotted time. You will then see the time and count down on the screen. Please note: when the countdown ends, the meeting is automatically closed and the next appointment is started, I have no control over this. Please login and check the audio and visual before your appointment starts.

Within the program there is a facility to add a note when you book. If there is something specific you would like to discuss, this will enable you to communicate it to me before the meeting.

The available appointments will be on Monday to Thursday next week. Appointments can be booked from 5pm today by visiting:

https://ourladystarofthesea.schoolcloud.co.uk/

When booking, it is crucial that you use your child’s legal forename and surname – those recorded on our school management system. If any part of your child’s name is hyphenated, again it needs to be when typing in their name. Your own name on Sims is now recorded with one of the following titles Miss, Mrs Mr or Dr. The system will also ask for an email address so that a reminder can be sent out.

There are two links below which provide support on booking an appointment and how to access the virtual meeting. Please click to find out more.

Notices

Please check your emails to find an email from Miss Hornby about Parents Meetings taking place next week.

After speaking with Miss Hornby, we have decided that my maternity leave will begin on the 31st January. I have explained to the children that next week, although I will be in school, I will not be based in the classroom and that they will be taught by Mrs Hartley. I will still be around to say hello and look forward to hearing all about what they get up to each day. On Friday 28th January (my final day in school), I will be in class with the children all day - which I am so excited for. It will be a wonderful opportunity to celebrate all of the learning adventures we have had together and wave goodbye (for now). Mrs Hartley will therefore be writing next week’s blog and is really looking forward to introducing herself to you. Her email is s.hartley@ourladystarofthesea.lancs.sch.uk, should you need to get in touch with her. I would like to take the opportunity now to say a huge thank you to you all. Teaching your children has been such a gift and they will always have such a special place in my heart. I really look forward to celebrating their progress with you next week in a virtual parents meeting.
