Meet Our Reception Family!
What have we been learning this week…
RE: This week we have continued to reflect on what it means to be part of our Reception family and God’s family. We have thought about how we are all unique, special and loved by God. We have been busy painting our self portraits that are now proudly displayed in our classroom and on the family tree in our school’s worship area. I wonder if you can see Reception’s pictures…
Literacy: This week we have had a special visitor in school - author Dan Worsley. He came into school on Wednesday and delivered a fantastic story telling assembly. The children were captivated! It was wonderful to watch their facial expressions as they were immersed in the story. On Thursday, he came into Reception to deliver a special story telling workshop in which he told us how he uses his imagination to create his own stories where anything is possible. He certainly inspired Reception to tell creative stories this week featuring lots of pets with special powers!
Thank you Dan!
Reading Books
On Monday, Reception will start to bring a reading book home. To begin with, this will be a picture book which is intended to encourage lots of discussion about what might be happening. The children can also make predications and use their imaginations to explore the characters and settings. In the reading packet you will also find some more suggestions that might be useful for home (see picture below). You are welcome to take this leaflet out of the reading packet and keep it at home.
Please make sure reading packets and books are brought to school each day as we will also read with the children in class. Books will be changed every Monday. We hope you enjoy sharing these books together at home; it would be great if you could write a short comment in the yellow reading packet so we can share this journey with you.

Let’s Celebrate…
Each week children across the school are celebrated for demonstrating our learning characters and our school virtues. These children are celebrated in class and in our Friday assemblies. It’s Reception’s first week joining these celebrations and it has been tricky to choose just three children as they’ve also done so wonderfully this week!
Co-operative Roger Robin: Cora!
Cora, you have been a co-operative Roger Robin this week by being thoughtful and conscientious towards other people in our class. You notice when they might need help and recognise how important it is to work together as a team!
Thank you for being a great member of our team and for thinking of others.
Well done Cora!
Co-Operative Roger Robin: Hector!
Hector, you’ve shown us that you know how important it is to be a co-operative Roger Robin and we have seen you show kindness all of your new friends at school. You have also taken great care of our classroom by remembering to ‘choose it, use it, put it away!’. Thank you for taking such good care of our classroom and your friends.
Well done Hector!
Whole School Virtue - Active: Kian!
Kian, you have been activity thinking about how your choices in school will help you to grow your brain and we can see how ready and excited you are for your Reception journey. Well done for thinking about those good choices and for being an active learner.
Well done Kian!
Important reminders:
We kindly ask that screw top water bottles are not sent into school. These can be tricky for children to open and can often lead to accidental spillages! Thank you for your understanding.
The children are really enjoying sharing their family photos in the home corner. If you haven’t sent one already, you are welcome to send one in or email it to Mrs Hartley.
Photographs of adults permitted to collect your child from school should be sent to Mrs Hartley via email (see below).
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact Mrs Hartley

Have a wonderful weekend
God Bless,
