This week, in our religion lessons, we have reflected on our learning about Jesus as our teacher. Children thought about how they would react in certain situations by thinking, “What would Jesus do?” By thinking about things He said and stories He told to guide us we can learn from the greatest teacher of all time.
In English this week, we have started our new topic of Folk Tales with the stories of Brer Rabbit. Children have been learning to read between the lines and think about characters’ motives in the stories, finding evidence from the text. We have made a good start to our rehearsals of Romeo and Juliet - the children are doing really well and deliver their lines with passion.
In maths we have learned this week to find the perimeter of shapes and solve problems involving them. Children have brushed up on their shape recognition too and learned some new ones, such as parallelogram and rhombus. We are doing brilliantly and ‘Going for Gold’ with our times tables - our new facts this week were 4x8=32 and 5x7=35. We have a song for each key fact learned so far - see if your children can sing them to you!
n History, we have learned about religion in England from Roman times through the Anglo-Saxon era. We learned how England was converted to Christianity in the 7th Century and how this happened.
Today we swapped our Lenten boxes with our Year 1 partners and children brainstormed things they could do to earn extra pennies.
Here are some pictures of us working in partners to complete comprehension about Brer Rabbit.
Let’s Celebrate!
This week, the certificates were very hard to choose - we are becoming more focused and hardworking each day! Three double whammy Lizzie Ladybird/Cooper crab certificates are awarded to Hugo, Joseph and Logan for really improving their focus, participation and striving to improve in their learning.
Loving and Compassionate butterflies
This half term, our virtues are ‘Loving and Compassionate.’ This week our butterflies goes to Poppy for being such a role model in class - you have been described by friends this week as easy-going and kind and I agree wholeheartedly. Thank you for always being so ready to learn too! Also Teddy gets a butterfly - there have been so many times when you have seen someone in need in class this week and jumped up to help them. What a lovely young man!

Marvellous Manners in the hall - Beth

This Sunday 9:30am- all children making their Holy Communion must attend Our Lady Star of the Sea church as it is the Welcome mass to start the programme. Children have brought home a picture they made of themselves which they need to bring to church on Sunday. They do not need to be in school uniform. Children can sit with their families in mass and Father Peter will be getting the children up on the altar during one part of the mass - they can bring their picture up with them. Next Thursday 29th February, sessions start after school for the children. The first parent session is on Thursday 7th March
Wednesday 7th March World book Day. We would love children to dress up as their favourite book character for a day of Storytelling! We would also like children to bring in a ‘magical object’ that they could tell a story about. It may be as simple as a feather, pebble or shell, a stick - they can use their imagination about what their special object can do!
Wednesday 13th March and TUESDAY 26th March Year 4 online Parent appointments. Please book a parents appointment on one of these two dates so we can discuss progress and targets. (Not Wednesday 20th March like the other classes)
Wednesday 20th March. Shakespeare performance at Hodgson High School. Children have now been given their parts to learn. Full details after half term.
Tuesday 24th March 9:15am Year 4 class Easter assembly on The Garden of Gethsemane
