Another week has gone by so quickly, with everyone being very busy and working so hard. It’s been good to see a little bit of sunshine as well.

In RE we have been learning about Jesus’ ascent to heaven. We ordered his story from Palm Sunday to his ascension. The children wrote some excellent independent sentences explaining what happened in each moment. We are all looking forward to attending the ascension mass on Thursday.

Today we wrote our own prayers to Jesus sat in a circle and shared them it was such a lovely moment. The children wrote such thoughtful prayers.

Conversation Starter

Each week I will give you a question that I would like you to think about and discuss together at home. This could be over dinner time as a family, at bedtime, on a walk or even in the car. However you choose to discuss this question is up to you, but the idea is that it will help to give an insight in to what we talk about in school, help children to understand more about themselves or others.

In RHE we have been thinking about how we can be kind to our friends and ourselves. It is important to celebrate our own achievements. I would like you to discuss something that the children have done this week that they are proud of.

What has been the best part of your week and why ?

What have we been learning this week……

In science we have started our weather chart. Each morning and afternoon we discuss the weather and add to our chart. Can you guess which type of weather we have had the most of ?

We have been on our Spring walk where we have looked for signs of Spring. Each child took a photograph on their Ipad to share what they had seen. We observed our class tree and discovered it was a deciduous tree as it loses its leaves. We did a tree bark rubbing, drew the other half of a leaf and drew and labelled our class tree.

In DT we chopped up fruit and tasted it, squeezed lemons, limes and oranges and tasted two ready made smoothies to help us prepare for next week where we will be designing and making our own smoothies.

In enrichment we went to Yr 3 with Mrs Naylor. We used wool to add texture to pictures drawn by Vincent Van Gogh. We were so inspired by this that we continued to look at the works of Vincent in our golden time and recreate our own artworks based on his paintings.

In English we have started our Peter Rabbit retell. We have drawn our own story maps and created actions to help remember the story. We have then we have written it down in our books. We all enjoyed doing this. Thank you for completing the handwriting tasks at home it really is making a difference. The children are loving the challenge of writing in pre cursive

Maths has been all about subtraction and measuring. We have also looked at placing numbers on number lines. We have recapped on greater than >, less than < and equal to =. We looked at lots of different equations and decided whether the equations were true or false. Ask your child if they can remember the symbols? Extra challenge write a few equations some right and some wrong can they tell you if there are true or false e.g 5< 10, 3> 7, 5=4.

Each Friday we have Golden Time this is a chance to catch up on work during the week and a treat for our hard work. Today’s was all about Starry Nights, we did a collaborative piece on our tuff tray using cotton buds and paint. Painted and used crayons for our own Vincent Van Gogh inspired artwork. Mrs Davis brought in a huge piece of cardboard for us to draw on, it was a very creative afternoon! I am very impressed with our art, it is amazing! We enjoyed reading our class book, Not Just a Stick and looking at Henry’s adventures with our class.

This person is taking Henry home for being reflective this week, you have worked very hard, well done.

Well done to these children. two silvers! I know there are lots that are very close, don’t forget to sign in their books

Upcoming dates and Reminders:

Ridgeway Farm

As part of our Geography and Science topic we will be visiting Ridgeway farm for our school trip on Tuesday 21st May. We really encourage parental engagement so it would be wonderful if we could have some adult helpers. If you are free and would love to join us please can you send me an email. Please note It will be a full day trip leaving school at 9:30am and returning by 3pm, you will need to bring a packed lunch and mobile phones can not be used around the children or to take photos of the children. There will be school iPads and photos will be uploaded to the blog.

The cost of the trip will be £15, this is on parent pay.

Please can you bring in water bottles every day and remember to bring in reading folders so we can quiz and change books.

Polite reminder that all children across school should bring water in their bottles and not juice. This is something that we discuss regularly in school as part of our discussions about healthy snacks and healthy lunches. Please can you bring in healthy snacks please refer to the poster for suitable snack, we always have fruit avalible too.

Please can you bring/keep spare uniform in bags, as the weather has been wet recently, children have fallen over in puddles and it can sometimes be tricky finding spare uniform for them in the right size.
