‘Reach for the moon, even if you fall short, you will land among the stars.’

Norman Vincent Peale

I cannot believe we are in our final term in Year 1! I am so happy with all the progress the children have made and how hard they have worked and supported each other. We are very busy with lots of exciting things going on and activities to look forward to.

What have we been learning this week……

This week has been all about phonics and we have carried out a range of activities to help prepare for our phonics screening which we have now completed. I am so proud of all children and thank you all for the hard work you have put in at home. On Friday we all enjoyed a little ice pop treat to celebrate our achievements, even Henry had one!

This week in RE we learnt that Christian means a follow of Jesus Christ, we started to look at the features of a church and discussed the parish church we go to. Next Friday we are visiting Father Peter at church so we can look at the different features and why they are important. We will also use this to to ask Father Peter some questions.

Yesterday we had our yoga session in the hall, this was great fun and we all enjoyed it.

In English we worked with Mrs Davis and marked our Peter Rabbit retells, making sure we used capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. Can you ask your child about how well they did, is there anything they could improve in their story ?

On Thursday we discovered a time machine in the classroom and a dinosaur came out of it and then he disappeared. We have had great fun trying to find the dinosaur around school. We thought we saw him in the bushes and we think he has been in the castle, but haven’t found him yet!  We have even learnt a new word - Mesozoic , this means middle life, this is the time of the dinosaurs 252 – 66 million years ago.

Can you think of how we might find the dinosaur and send him back?

In Maths we created our oen number stories to tell our partners and have been looking at place value, and started our time unit with the days of the week. Next week we will be learning how to tell the time to the hour and half past, can you have a practise at home?

We had a wonderful music lesson on Thursday afternoon with Miss Lavelle, I promised the children I would put the video on the blog. I was very impressed, they all worked together and were proud of their performance, I am too!

This week in RHE we have been thinking about how we can be kind to each other and what we can do it we make a mistake and upset someone. We all thought about a time when we hadn’t made a good choice and we said that it was important to say sorry. We drew a picture about what had happened and then scrunched it up and threw it away. Once we reflect and fix our mistake we do not need to worry about it. If we are truly sorry, God will forgive us.

We then thought about what we can do to be kind friends. In Year 1 we are a team, so we made a paper chain and discussed the importance of each link, if one breaks then the chain will fall apart. When we work together and are kind amazing things happen!
