We have had a very productive week in Year 4. In religion lessons this week, children learned about what happened to the disciples at Pentecost. They re-enacted the different events of the story and used their drama skills to ‘freeze frame’ them. We have been trying in class this week to become like Jesus’ disciples and be witnesses to the good news too! Children have been spotting others who try hard to be disciples and writing their names on our board.
This week, in English we have continued to revise every aspect of grammar - using our Dragon Slayer story to help us. We are nailing the tricky apostrophe for possession, we can write similes and we can use exciting sentence starts to name a few. Children have started to put these into practice, choosing when to use them in the story they are writing.
In French we are learning how to say weather phrases and children did a French weather rap - complete with some beat-boxing!
In maths, we are just brilliant on multiplicative relationships now! It is time to move on to Fractions!
In Science, we started our topic on sound - secretly, Mrs Lyons recorded the sound for a whole day and night in Year 4! What did we discover? We found out that sound is measured in decibels then we made up our own class experiment to see who was the loudest in Year 4!
In history this week, we have looked at two extracts of writing from exactly the same year, 825 AD. One said the Vikings were brave, adventurous, noble and great sailors. The other said exactly the opposite - they ravaged our country, were violent, murderous thugs. Why the 2 different accounts? Children can you explain why to your parents? (See below)

The Vikings have a bad reputation! But do they deserve it or is there another side to this part of history? Were they just bloodthirsty raiders?
Let’s Celebrate!
This week, we have been trying hard to hone our learning behaviours to make sure that we are all fully listening, fully focused and fully participating in every moment. These two learning role models below really do embody these qualities at all times
Poppy received a Cooper Crab/Roger Robin certificate this week. Your learning partner commented on what a delight it is to have a partner who tries so hard, wants to improve and is just so pleaseant! Thank you Poppy
Grace also received a Cooper Crab/Roger Robin certificate. You make the most of every minute at school Grace. You are incredibly focused, motivated and you do your best. Thank you.
Learned and Wise butterflies
This half term we will be on the lookout for all the children that are learned in their actions, finding God in all things. Those who are wise, who use their learning for the common good. These are children who are trying to drive their own learning forward. This week we have a trio of butterflies. They go to Louis, Toby and William for being children who take their learning seriously and make wise decisions.
