8.7.22 - Give me joy in my heart, keep me praising!

It has been another lovely week in Reception, full excitement. It was wonderful to hear Nursery, Reception, Year One and Year Two singing this week’s hymn ‘Give me joy in my heart’ with such joy in assembly, it set us up for a wonderful end to the week.

This week we released our butterflies into the world, Nursery very kindly gave us caterpillars a few weeks ago and we have been closely observing the different stages of their life cycle. This afternoon Jude and Bella represented our class as our school councillors, as they helped to plant a special tree in honour of Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee.

We have been talking all things maps this week and started by moving our minion around a grid with the directions up, down, across. We then added left and right rather than across. We wrote a code or set of instructions for the minion to follow so he could get to the treasure. After this we made a giant grid outside and gave instructions to our friends, this time using forward, backwards, left and right. The final step of our map work this week was using the Beebots to move around the grid. The Beebots can turn left and right in the square they are in and move forward and back. We look forward to creating our own maps for the Beebots next week.

The button below is a great game to practise your Beebot skills!

Let’s Celebrate

Michael is a Curious Clara Cownfish - For being curious towards all the nature in our outdoor environment, particularly our beans, pansies and sunflowers. We have been impressed by your care towards the plants in our garden, making sure they are watered each day. You have also shown love towards God’s creatures, making sure you always observe the insects in our garden from a safe distance. Well done Michael!

Xander is a Focused Cooper Crab - For concentrating really well to create instructions for the Beebot to follow. We are so impressed with your  confidence to create a code and demonstrate to others how to make the Beebot move to the correct square. Well done Xander!
