Our classroom has been filled with smiles, excitement, laughter and lots of learning already. The children are settling in wonderfully and already showing themselves to be role models for our school. We are thoroughly enjoying this time to get to know them all which will help us have the best start to a successful year.
Reception, well done on a fabulous first few days of school; you should all be feeling incredibly proud of yourselves!
Grown-ups, it was lovely meeting you all this week and thank you for taking the time to come in and see the classroom and to share some valuable information with us. It’s not just the children who are welcomed into the Our Lady’s family but their families as well. At the bottom of this blog, you will find our email addresses should there be any other questions that you might have.
Families, we are looking forward to working alongside you this year!
Snacks & School Dinners
Polite reminder that we are a NUT FREE school.
We kindly ask that no nut products are sent into school as we do have children and staff across school with nut allergies.
A variety of healthy snacks are provided in school (including apples, bananas, oranges, pears, carrots, tomatoes and many more!) so there is no need to send one in from home. When the children are eating together, we often find they are encouraged to try things that they might not have tried before and it is a lovely opportunities to talk about healthy foods and how we can look after our bodies.
School dinners will begin on week beginning Monday 16th September when the children are in school full time. Again, as a healthy school, we provide two options for lunch which the children can choose from in the morning and we also have a salad bar with a variety of fruits and vegetables. School meals are free for children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.
Should you prefer to send in a packed lunch, please see the poster below regarding what foods in school.
Thank you for your support and understanding.
What have we been learning this week:
Classroom Routines and Environment: A big focus for us this week has been exploring our environment and the many areas of provision that we have to choose from. As a class we have talked about how we can use all of these areas and resources safely and responsibly and how we can look after them. We are pleased to say that Reception have already done a wonderful job at looking after their classroom showing great care and respect towards their resources and to their friends as well!
Our School Learning Characters: Across school, we have a number of learning characters that help us to encourage and support a positive growth mindset in the children as they enjoy their journey through school. This week in Reception we met Co-operative Roger Robin! Roger Robin helps us to think about what it means to be co-operative and work as a team with others and why this is important. We have talked about the different ways in which we can be cooperative in Reception and when moving around the school. It has been lovely to see many Roger Robins in our Reception class already!

PE will begin when the children are in school full time (from week beginning Monday 16th September). Our PE days are Tuesday (outside) and Wednesday (inside). On these days, children can come to school in their PE uniform and will remain in this for the day. We kindly ask that velcro trainers (white, black or navy) are worn as this allows the children to be indepoendent when taking their shoes off and putting them back on.Items to bring daily:
Each child should bring a water bottle (standard size as we have limited space) and a blue school bag (again we have limited space in our cloakroom and kindly ask that the blue school bag is used as these fit on our pegs). Reading packets will be given out when the children start full time; these will need to be brought into school daily so we can read with the children in class.Art T-shirt
We are very excited to share that Reception will be engaging in weekly art lessons with Mrs Mathers. During these lessons they will have the opportunity to learn about various artists and to explore a variety of different media and materials. In order to keep uniforms as clean as possible, please send in a oversized art t-shirt that your child can wear over the top of their uniform. These need to be in school by Friday 13th September and will remain in school. Please ensure they are clearly labelled.
