You will have notice that a big pack of words has come home with your child this weekend. DO NOT PANIC - these are not to be learned all in one week! These are to be kept at home and each week, I will ask your child to focus on and learn to spell one set. This week, I would like your child to learn how to spell set 1. You can do this in anyway which is best for your child. For example you may stick them around the house, you may write a couple out each night, you may write them out in sand or you may use the say, write, cover, check system. What ever is best for your child is fine. I would also like them to learn the following ‘al’ words:

ball call talk already small also

A mix of the set 1 words and ‘al’ words will be given in a little quiz next week, so please do go over them. Remember, the children have their home learning books to complete any work in.

Purple Mash

If you do get chance, I have set a little ‘to do’ on Purple Mash for the children to complete if they wish.

Thank you, Miss Woodend

Year 2 - Home learning 20.09.2019

English

I have sent home a sheet for the children to have a go at practising their handwriting as well as going over some of Year 1 spellings from last year. These spellings will not be quizzed on next week. New Year 2 spellings will be given out next week.

Don’t forget to read those books!

Maths

This week’s maths home learning is linked to the place value work we have been completing in class.

Thank you for all of the wonderful drawings and photographs of families, it was great to gain a better understanding of the different people the children talk about each day. Also thank you for backing and protecting your children’s books - hopefully they’ll last us for the year now.

This week’s home learning

Every child has come home with a log in book mark containing usernames and passwords for Accelerated Reader, IXL and Purple Mash.

This week, I would like the children to follow the link on the bottom of their Purple Mash log in and have a play. They can investigate what’s on there and have a go at completing their choice of activities and games. Enjoy!

IXL log ins have slightly changed so please check these. Please complete sections:

The Accelerated Reading log in will not work at home. Further details of how parents can check reading progress through Accelerated Reader will follow.

Finally, all of the children have come home with new reading books. Please read every day at home; remember books can be quizzed on and changed daily if needed. As the length of the children’s books grow longer, they will be expected to keep these for longer periods of time.

Thank you

Year 2 Home Learning - 6.9.19

This week the children have been given their new home learning books and folders. They have both books and folders as sometimes the children may be given sheets to complete which can either be stuck into their books or placed into the folder. Other weeks the children may be asked to complete something in their books.

This week, please could the children back their books in order to protect them whilst being carried home and back to school each week. This can be done using wrapping paper, sticky back plastic, newspaper - what ever you fancy. It would be brilliant if the children could decorate their books and folders to make them unique to them - please do remember names on these too.

On the first page in the home learning books, it would them be great if your child could draw or write about the different people in their families. This can include siblings, aunties and uncles, grandparents, carers, and even pets! This will then help us when your child talks to us about different people in class.

Finally, we are in the process of completing different reading assessments with your children in order to ensure that they come home with the correct reading book for their level. As the children don’t yet have a reading book, please do read, read and read as much as you can at home.

Thank you

Miss Woodend
