Year 4 homework to be handed in for Thursday 3rd October

Assembly parts

Children have come home with these to be learnt for Monday if possible and practised each night until our assembly - Tuesday 8th October. We are going to sing the song below too so please practise this. I have sent home a paper copy of the words too.

Spelling

This week we have been learning the suffix tion.

Please copy these verbs and change them into nouns by adding ion - if it ends in e, drop the e first.

collect inject inspect act germinate locate

create investigate

We also are practising these words which we spell wrong in our writing sometimes:

which appear saw something were again

Purple mash

Have a go at explaining the process of germination in purple mash (2do Germination)

Explain the following in order:

  1. The conditions needed in order to germinte

  2. What happens to the seed first?

  3. Then what happens to the seed case?

  4. Then think root and shoot!

Don’t forget your causal conjunctions (the language of explanation) eg in order to, consequently, this means that, this enables, at this stage, as a result

Year 4 homework to be handed in on Thursday 26th September

IXL

Please complete units B! and B2. I have put your IXL passwords in your homework books - except for those who did not hand it in. Yours is in your bags.

Reading!

Please do lots of reading over the weekend and read for 20 minutes each night - lets see how many children can meet their reading target this half term! Well done to Elise who has already met it!

Seed dispersal.

We have learned lots about seeds and how they disperse this week. Go on a walk around your garden or a park. Have a close look at the seeds in the plants. How do you think they disperse? Draw them in your homework book and see if you can write a little explanation of how you think they do it.

Our main categories were:

Wind: some seeds have parachutes, helicopters or shakers

Animal: Some get eaten, some get buried and some hitchhike on an animal’s fur!

Gravity - some are heavy and roll whilst others catapult out.

You could use some of our lovely language of explanation eg, in order to, as a result, consequently, since, because, this means that, this enables…..

Your first Year 4 homework

Reading

Now you have your new ZPD I would like you to read for 20 minutes every day in Year 4. Make it a real priority!

Homework books

As usual, please back your books in something that reflects your personality - you can use stickers, wrapping paper, photos anything you like but please make sure we can see your name on the front.

Purple Mash

We have an exciting new program which can be done on any device or computer - purple mash You have had a go in class. I have stuck your username and password in your new homework books.

This week I would like you to log in (click link below) and CREATE YOUR AVATAR. You do this by clicking on the silhouette of a person by your name. It can be whatever you like!

Your second task is in your 2DOs list (in red at the top) You need to complete the 2DO ‘When I grow up,’ so that Mrs Lyons can find out more about your ambitions. Dont worry if you are not sure yet, (its not necessary to be sure at age 8!!) just think about what you might like to be and tell me why.

I hope you enjoy it!
