‘The wild things roared sizzling fire and pointed their sharp claws!’

This week the children have been learning the story of ‘Where the Wild Things are’ off by heart, using a story map. We have put actions to the words so that the children can retell the story with enthusiasm and expression. I am so excited, as next week we will be bringing all of our wonderful English learning together and the children will be writing their own story, based on their own monster!

In Maths, the children have been learning about addition within 20. We have been wise mathematicians this week and have been carefully thinking about the best way to answer a question. We have been using number lines a lot, to aid with this learning. The children have been learning that if they were working out 17 + 2, it would be more efficient to start counting from 17 because it is the greater number.

In RE, the children have been learning about when Mary and Joseph lost Jesus in the temple. The children did some fantastic role play and thought deeply about how Mary and Joseph must have felt, when they didn’t know where Jesus was. The children then practised using speech marks ( “ “ ) and imagined what each of them would have said, when they were reunited.

In HRSE, we have been thinking about the feelings of pride and jealousy. The children have been questioning what each of these emotions looks like and feels like. The children shared lovely, honest examples of times they have felt these emotions. It was so wonderful to see how comfortable the children are with each other.

Star of the Day

Every day I will be picking a star of the day! The star of the day will be someone who has shone Jesus’ light in our classroom and been a kind, resilient and focused learner. As I only pick one star of the day, these children should be very proud of themselves! This week the stars of the day have been: Benjamin, Elsie, Ola, Sophia and Erin.

Class Tiger

This week the Tiger has chosen to come home with Liam. Liam, the Tiger could choose to come home with you every week. You are always so kind and focused during lessons and always have an idea to share too! Have a roar-some weekend with the Tiger!

Let’s celebrate

Keep Improving Lizzie Ladybird -  For improving so much in your writing. Maddie, I am so impressed with how much you are now writing in class. It bring me so much joy to see all of your creative and wonderful ideas written down on paper. You should be super duper proud of yourself!

Enthusiastic Bobby Bee - For being such an enthusiastic mathematician. Archie, every maths lesson, you are one of the first on the carpet ready to go! Your maths brain is ticking away and you are always so eager to fill it with new learning. Your confidence is growing with your love of maths Archie! Well done superstar!

Notices:

  • PE kit to be worn on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Please note that the children should wear a full tracksuit, as per the school’s uniform policy - not just shorts. Children are to wear their shorts for Yoga on a Wednesday and indoor PE on a Friday. I suggest that children wear their shorts underneath their tracksuit bottoms, so that they can easily change.

  • On Tuesday morning, the children will be going to church to learn about baptism. Please can the children come dressed for all weathers!

  • Urgent plea for spare knickers! Many pairs of knickers have been handed out over the year and have not been returned. These have been bought by members of staff across KS1. Please wash and return any knickers that your child borrows. If your child sometimes has wet accidents, please can you ensure they have a bag with spare clothes, knickers, wipes and a plastic bag. If you have spare knickers/boys underwear that your child no longer wears, your donations would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!

Have a lovely weekend and God bless,

Miss Lane, Miss Woodrow and Mrs Malley
