Peter Rabbit came to visit us this week in class and he brought the children jigsaws to do. They learned all about him just by doing the jigsaws! He then hid lots of new words in the year 1 garden for us to find. The children had lots of fun finding the eggs (with words inside) and putting the words into sentences. As a class we wrote a character profile for grumpy Mr McGregor and the children then wrote a character profile for Peter Rabbit on their own. Their writing is amazing and I am so proud of them all.
In history this week, the children learned about the events of the Apollo 11 mission, from Blast off to splash down. They really impressed me by ordering a tricky photo sequence of the astronauts journey. They then learned to re-tell the story using actions. Please get the children to tell you about their epic adventure!
In maths we have been counting in 2s and 5s. We had lots of fun playing ‘count the socks’ as we chanted the multiples of 2. I wonder if you can do this at home, counting forwards and backwards.
Thank you again to those of you who joined us for our Lenten Mass today. It was lovely to see so many of you celebrating this, very special time of year with us. Well done to those children who have been generous with their time and have been making their bed at home. The children’s almsgiving challenge this week is to help lay the table ready for dinner for 20p. Your support is greatly appreciated!
Star of the Day
Every day I will be picking a star of the day! The star of the day will be someone who has shone Jesus’ light in our classroom and been a kind, resilient and focused learner. As I only pick one star of the day, these children should be very proud of themselves! This week the stars of the day have been: Gabriella, Athur, Erin, Rafe and Dominic!
Class Tiger
The Tiger has chosen to go home with Esther this week. Esther, the Tiger has chosen to come home with you because he has seen you make lots of sensible decisions this week. You have been a brilliant role model to your class mates and have shown them how to shine Jesus’ light in our classroom.
Kindness Pot
This week year 1 got 36 pom-poms in the kindness pot! That’s 1 more than last week! I wonder if next week I can spot even more acts of kindness. Let’s aim for 40!
Let’s celebrate
Concentrating Cooper Crab - For being a good listener. Layla, you have tried so hard this week to listen to my instructions and focus on your own learning. You have taken lots of pride in your own work and have pushed yourself to grow your brain! Well done, Layla! Keep it up!
Reflective Lizzie Ladybird - For editing your own learning independently. Benjamin, you have shown how much you enjoy reflecting on your own learning with a purple pencil. You know how exciting it can be to spot your own errors and also make your learning even better! I am so impressed with your eagerness to grow your brain!
Notices:
The children will be going on a school trip to Blackpool Zoo, on Tuesday 21st April. Payment for this is now open on ParentPay. The children will be reviewing their learning all about the different animals and will be taking part in a dinosaur lesson, all ready for our new English topic. It is certain to be a fun-filled day of learning!
Children will be starting Food Tech with Mrs Curtis, after half term. Please can all of the children bring with them an apron and a tea towel. They will need these the first Monday back (Monday 20th April).
PE kit to be worn on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Please note that the children should wear a full tracksuit, as per the school’s uniform policy - not just shorts. Children are to wear their shorts for Yoga on a Wednesday and indoor PE on a Friday. I suggest that children wear their shorts underneath their tracksuit bottoms, so that they can easily change.
It was wonderful talking to you all about your children’s learning this week. I’m so proud of all of the children’s hard work and I loved having the opportunity to share that with you.
Have a lovely weekend,
Miss Lane, Miss Woodrow and Mrs Malley
