We are half way through the half term already, the sun has made an appearance more than once, the days are getting longer and the chill has gone from the morning air, all is looking good!
In Art…
Reception made a fantastic self portrait this week as we used half a photo and tried so hard to match the other side. This is so tricky but everyone was a true Sadie Spider and never gave up! These are now on display outside the staff room for all to see.
Year one started their Painting topic by responding to the story of ‘King Cuthbert’. We used the primary colours, learned how to hold a brush properly and what an artists rag is.
Year two started their Textiles topic by dip dying white fabric squares. We used two primary colours on each square and watched them merge to make a secondary colour. We folded the fabric in different ways to get different patterns. One child left the room for playtime, saying “This was the best lesson EVER!”.
Year three started their Design Technology topic on Circuits. We looked at adding a buzzer into a simple circuit, then adding a break into the circuit. We were very excited to find out that in pairs we will become our own toy company, design, name, make and promote a working Buzzer game.
Year four started their 3D topic and created a clay coiled dish. After watching a demonstration from me, we then decided if we would make a simple dish with just coils or really push ourselves and add a layer of spirals as well as the coils. These look great and are on display outside the Create room.
Year Five started their Design Technology topic, Cams. We looked at what a cam was and how it worked. After playing with some examples we decided what kind of cam or cams we would like to use in our designs. We will be designing, making and decorating a moving toy operated with a cam movement. This will be a space themed toy as the children are studying space as a class topic this term. We made the housing for the cam and started to plan.
Year six started their new topic, painting. We looked at the Cornish artist Patrick Heron and his abstract coastline paintings. We discussed colour in relation to emotions, seasons and weather, we talked about how his paintings made us feel and how art can mean different things to different people. Our conversations were mature and enlightening. We chose a section from the picture given and recreated it in our own season, time of day and emotion felt. Fantastic colour choices, I can’t wait for next week.
Art Club saw the artists in group four paint their clay creations. These were fabulous and have already gone home.
Have a restful weekend, enjoy the promised good weather and remember to wash your hands frequently.
Good health and God bless.
