Where have the weeks gone? Time, literally is flying by! Excitement is growing as trees are being put up at home and Christmas lists are written. The KS1 and Foundation classes are busy learning lines and practising their Nativity parts. It is indeed beginning to look a lot like Christmas.
In Art…
Reception showed off their recognition of colour and skill with a pencil as they coloured in a Santa competition for the Gazette. These have now been sent off. Good luck Reception , fingers crossed.
Year one made their super secret Christmas card. This was made in their topic ‘Printmaking’. These will come home in the last week of term.
Year two had to be super focused this week as we cut the axle for our moving vehicle in design technology. Two at a time came to learn how to use a saw and block to cut their axles, While the rest of the class decorated their wheels and vehicle base. Next week we assemble, check our wheels go around and add the cab.
Year three showed what they had learned during the collage topic by creating a scene of their choice, most chose Christmas and trees, Santa and the Nativity were heavily featured. Everyone showed how their scissor skills have improved and how accurate cutting is needed when the shapes are all you have to tell the story. Great understanding year three.
Year four had a masterclass in watercolour painting, learning how to use them correctly. Everyone was super excited when they saw what could be achieved with a little knowledge. We now know that water is key to good watercolours. We looked at the artist Georgia O'Keeffe and her beautiful close up flowers and the watercolours she created.
Year five We finally got the final third of our reduction block printing, the blue layer. We had to be super careful as the press print foam blocks were now very thin and fragile. We had to very carefully clean the red paint from the block and carve in our blue layer. Desperate to get this important layer right, you could have heard a pin drop. Gasps and little fist pumps rolled out over the tables as one by one we saw the success of our hard work.
Year six were determined to make their sewn purses right and were focused from the off. Buttons were sewn on and button holes were made and secured. We also started our seams, making the purse a safe place for money etc. These will be completed next week when we then create our sewn Christmas cards.
Art Club was great fun again this week, KS1 painted anything they wanted using only four colours, the children thought wisely and mixed colours to create new shades. KS2 partnered up and took photographs of each other. Close up facial photos, these will be made into rather unusual collages next week. The Art Monitors then challenged the club members to cartoon themselves as their favourite food. Many giggles and great artwork.
Blue Peter is one of my favorites, as it is age appropriate for Primary school children and is a very rounded show, covering many topics. Stephanie in year three has just broke a Create room record, becoming the only child to have earned four different badges, knocking the Jack girls off the top spot with three. The wall in the Create room is growing weekly. Why not watch the show and see what you could do?
Have a wonderful weekend and don’t forget to open those Advent Calenders on Sunday, The countdown has begun!
God bless.
