We’ve been busy in science this week. We spent Monday morning exploring friction. We were challenged to think about the experiments set out - what were we testing? Once we understood this part we had to decide which variable we would change and which variables we would keep the same. Please watch the video to see us in action. Once we had played with friction we began to explore the different types of friction: Sliding, rolling and fluid (air and water resistance). After this work we watched some teaching videos - we could see how the force of friction depends on the smoothness of surfaces and the weight of an object as that creates greater friction. After all this new learning we were able to make scientific conclusions to each of our five experiments. In maths we have been grappling with column addition with very large numbers and in English we have continued reading our class novel- “The Midnight Fox”. Mrs Lyons said to me this week that those who read are kinder- this is true because children really engage and sympathise with the children in the book. The children really like Tom and his amazing imagination. The novel allowed us to talk about two issues this week: body image as Hazeline in the story puts herself down when looking at pictures in a magazine. Once we read this part, we had a very mature discussion about this body types and body shaming and why it is wrong. In another chapter the word gay is used to describe a happy poem. I explained the word was coming up and we had , again, a very mature discussion about gender and attraction to the same gender- we then celebrated all our family members and friends who are gay and how important it is to celebrate all our differences. In RE we have moved onto the book of Exodus and how God’s covenant continues with the Israelites . In music we made our music video for the “recyclemoreinlancahsire” campaign- watch us on the news around school pages! In PE we counter balanced and played netball despite losing a third of the class to the dance competition- well done all! Finally Rhys, Alice and Jack led us in a beautiful worship all about service. Oh yes and on Thursday the chocolate and cake flowed as we celebrated Mrs Hotchkiss’ half century birthday!!!!!
