Another week over, gone in the blink of an eye, at least that is what it feels like. We are already half way through this half term, absorbing knowledge, questioning and making sense of it all. I would love to have been back at school, our school, with all the amazing opportunities we have now.
In Art…
Reception took on another of my cutting challenges, they do love a challenge! Ducky Duck needed cutting out carefully, his body, wings and legs, these then had to be glued back together on a new background. Our scissor skills are coming on nicely.
Year one used clay in their 3D lesson as they responded to the charming tale of Henry the pebble and his family. The children had to roll, squeeze, press, pull, pinch and smooth the clay, just as the story instructed. This gave us four very different pebbles, do ask what happened to Henry, Beatrice, Uncle Arthur and Uncle George.
Year two Finished the Aboriginal section of their topic by creating an Aboriginal style map. We had to think of our journey to school and what we passed on the way, could we then chose a simple sign for different locations and items, such as a cross for a church and a bag for a supermarket. We then told our partners our journey showing them our maps. Next week we move onto clay work.
Year three made prints using mono-printing with a fantastic product called ‘Safe-print’. We pressed into the surface to create patterns and printed them in the traditional black on white. We realised that to print our initial, we had to do it back to front or it would print wrong. This was a very exciting morning in year three, Art and Science in one day….Wow! All the science on electrical circuits is very handy as after half term we will be moving onto Design Technology and designing and making our own Buzzer Games.
Year four Started their Tipper Trucks in D.T. We had to measure the size of our box to make sure we had the correct size for our axles, the children remembered from year two about axles and put this knowledge to good use when completing this week’s task. We attached the tipper and are now ready to add the wheels and the pneumatic system next week.
Year five added the Mod-Roc skin to their Alberto Giacometti inspired statues. This was messy but fun as we had to wrap the plaster strips around the framework and smooth it out. We added a papier mache head and we are now ready to paint them with metallic paints next week.
Year six worked in pairs as they created the base for their masks. Using a balloon wrapped in tissue paper we added two layers of ‘brown gummed paper’. this sets hard when dry. these will be then divided and as from next week, the children will be working alone an their modifications.
Art Club had their third session and painted what they wanted with a given title, KS1 had Summer or Winter and KS2 had happiness, sadness, anger or loneliness. These were amazing and the children showed their deeper feelings.
Home Art , I love it when children are inspired to get arty at home, even more when they are proud and want to share it with me and you. In the Art Club section you can view two year four girls and a young man from year five’s home art. They are fabulous, thank you for sharing.
Have a wonderful weekend, hopefully the rain will stay away, giving us all the opportunity to get out and about.
God bless.
