How is time moving so quickly? The days , weeks and months fly by so fast at Our Lady’s, but they do say, ‘Time flies when you’re having fun!’.
In Art…
Reception had a master class in cutlery holding and cutting. We used play dough to create some imaginary food and practised cutting it up. The children now have more confidence in the dinner hall and are having a go at cutting up their own food. Remember children, practise makes progress.
Year one are really getting to grips with clay, literally. We rolled and squeezed and pinched and rolled some more as we responded to the story of Nancy and Wilfred. Two amazing little pebbles from St Annes beach who are kind, caring and generous. Please ask your children to explain the lovely little sculptures that came home this week.
Year two used clay for the first time since year one, when they listened to the story of King Cuthbert. Many children remembered the story as we first heard in in year one during our ‘Painting’ topic. This time we recreated the story in two colours of clay, We made little worms, medium worms and large worms, we also made King Cuthbert and a super little crown, Ask your children to tell you the story of the fabulous sculpture that came home this week.
Year three looked into different animal skins and furs. We decided that God was feeling very creative when he designed all these amazing furs and skins. We drew some in our books ready for making our own animal skin/fur tile next week. We will make a clay tile, carve our chosen pattern into the clay and print the design on paper. When dry, we will have a lovely animal print tile to keep.
Year four are doing great in their Design Technology, pneumatic systems . We all have added our axles and wheels and have decorated the trucks to our own design. Next week we will add the syringes and tubing and test our pneumatic system… exciting!
Year five completed their Alberto Giacometti inspired statues. First we made our evaluations on how each step was and then we chose either, silver, gold, bronze or copper metallic paint to show off the statue perfectly. We felt like we had won an Oscar , posing for our photo’s this week. These are now on display in the hallway outside the Create room and are getting a lot of positive attention and admiring glances.
Year six added their modifications to their 3D Rain forest masks. Using their photographs they had to add all the features from their animal, this was then covered in ‘brown gummed paper. Next week we paint them white and practise our texture and colour mixing skills to get our animal as realistic as possible.
Art Club, Group three had their fourth session. KS1 made a tube owl and KS2 made a clay monster pot, these will be painted next week.
Blue Peter. In the Create room there is a corner devoted to our Blue Peter Badge holders, including my own. We now have a young lady in year three who has collected five badges, She is determined to get them all, I for one am very impressed and a little envious.
Have a wonderful weekend and hopefully not too cold or wet.
God Bless.
