Another fantastic week of learning, laughter and togetherness. With the weather a little temperamental this week, most of us managed to get our precious playtimes outside, hopefully this will continue into next week.
In Art…
Year one did their first observational drawing lesson as we had to look at the pictures on the board to draw what we saw. using our ‘magic’ finger we first traced the object in the air before drawing it in our sketch book with a special graphite stick. Our confidence is coming on nicely and so is our drawing.
Year two had to use their imagination as I read them the first page of the book, The Owl who was afraid of the dark, by Jill Tomlinson. We discussed what Plop might be able to see from the top of his tall tree, we then drew exactly that. Then on black paper (for the night) we drew what we thought Plop looked like from the description in the book, in white pencil.
Year three had a tough challenge this week as I gave them each a section of a patterned paper to recreate. We glued the sample into our sketch books and redrew and continued the pattern in shape and colour, this is very tricky and needs a good eye and bags of patience. I am happy to report that year three had both and created some fabulous pattern work.
Year four put all their knowledge of line work and story telling into a final piece, when they had to think about their own personality. What makes them who they are, their likes and dislikes, sport, hobbies, food, animals etc. We the divided sections up on a photo of our own face and filled each section with the story of us. These look amazing and also a little scary seeing all these beautiful faces decorated like tribal war paint.
Year five completed their Hundertwasser inspired artwork this week as we drew over the images on acetate in black marker pen. These are bold and dramatic and definitely eye catching. Great job year five.
Year six had a Face Off challenge this week as we cut a photo of ourselves in half across the nose and using art pencils, making one half as realistic as possible and the other into a cartoon version. Using shading and tone to match the black and white photo is very tricky and takes patience and determination.
The Home Gallery is filling nicely, do have a look at the fantastic creativity our young artists are making at home. If you want to be included in the next Home Gallery, take a photo and send it to me r.curtis@ourladystarofthesea.lancs.sch.uk
Have a wonderful weekend, hopefully the sun may shine for us in the first weekend of October. I will be celebrating my youngest son’s twenty second birthday.
Stay safe
God bless
