Week six already, this half term is flying by, only another week and half before half term is here. The days are closing in and there is a definite change in the weather, jumpers and coats are now a must have everyday at school.
In Art…
Year one watched a lovely little animated video of the Three Little Pigs, after we discussed what each pig had made their houses from and what that would look like. We drew each texture and chose the correct colours. After that we chose a scene from the story and drew this in our sketch books, we included the Big Bad wolf!
Year two had a masterclass in Observational drawing, Here at Our Lady’s, we pop back to this each half term to improve and understand that we only draw what we can actually see, not what we thought we saw. Using the items in our pencil cases we looked so carefully and drew what we could see.
Year three had another challenge like last week but instead of continuing the pattern as it was, we had to continue and change the pattern, this gave us the freedom to show our imagination.
Year four looked at the artist John Brunsdon and discussed his style. We then tried two of his prints for ourselves before creating our own version with a beach scene as reference. These will be completed next week before starting our William Morris lesson.
Year five Had a go at negative drawing. Using black on white paper and white on black paper. After a little practice we created a picture frame to make either a stylish vase of flowers or a quirky pot of art materials.
Year six had my Face off challenge part two, Reality vs Picasso. Using a colour photo of ourselves we sliced our face down the middle and stuck them in our sketch books one on each page. The aim was to create the other half of our face as realistic as possible in shape and colour. We used water colour pencils to achieve this. When finished the other side was made into a Picasso inspired alter ego.
The Home Gallery has some beautiful home art this week, do go and look. If you are feeling creative, why not send me a photo of your art, baking, cooking, Lego creations etc to r.curtis@ourladystarofthesea.lancs.sch.uk to be included in next weeks home gallery.
Hopefully the rain will stay away and we can all enjoy some outdoor time, I shall be taking my dog for lovely long walks on the beach hopefully.
Stay safe
God bless
Mrs Curtis
