Art News…Week One
It was wonderful to see everyone bounce back into school after the half term break, a little bit of normality in this crazy year.
In Art…
Year one started their new Art topic… Collage. We discussed what collage was and looked at the artist Andy Goldsworthy. We were hoping to venture outside to collect leaves but nature had other ideas as the heavens opened and it poured with rain, so onto plan B. We showed our cutting skills as we cut out printed Autumn leaves and created a gradient design with them, showing all the lovely Autumn colours.
Year two all remembered to bring an Art shirt, thank you all so much, Normally we would use the Create room shirts, another Covid casualty. We are doing the topic 3D this term and I was very impressed that all the children knew what 3d was. We will be using clay in the coming weeks but these first two weeks are all about Aboriginal art. We found out all about the Aboriginal people, where they come from and the art. We used paint and cotton buds to experiment with creating lovely Aboriginal inspired art.
Year three started their Collage topic by looking at the art work of Paul Klee and his painting, Highways and Byways. We decided that it was an old fashioned title and we came up with modern ones such as Motorways and Streets. We then used coloured paper and created our very own version.
Year four started their Painting topic and most remembered their art shirts, if you forgot, make sure you have it in school ready for next lesson. We took six different recycled papers and glued them to our sheet, we then attempted to paint over them, some were too absorbent, some resisted the paint and others showed the print right through. Next week we will over paint with thin delicate markings.
Year five started the Printmaking topic and again most remembered their art shirts, just a few forgot and have promised to bring them ready for next week. We started planning our Reduction Block Printing, buy choosing our theme and splitting it into thirds. A yellow third, a red third and a blue third. We will print each third one a week, next week we will complete the yellow (first) third. Very exciting and most fun.
Year six started their Textiles topic by looking at the work of architect Norman Foster. We discussed his strong liner structures and that all had a triangle structure. We drew some of these in our sketch books while four at a time dyed fabric using Brusho dye and pipettes to place the colour. These will be drawn on in marker pen next week with the designs of Norman Foster.
Thank you on behalf of my Art Monitors for the lovely pumpkin designs you sent over the half term break. I am waiting to see which they have chosen overall and we will put it on display around the school.
This half terms Home Gallery is up and already having beautiful artwork work added. If you would like to show what creativity you have at home send me pictures at r.curtis@ourladystarofthesea.lancs.sch.uk and I will add them to the gallery for all to see.
It is colder in the Create room as I am sticking to guidance on good ventilation, so remember to wear an extra layer or bring an extra jumper/hoody for Art lessons, let’s stay warm and healthy together.
Have a restful weekend.
Stay safe
God bless
Mrs Curtis
