It is not everyday that an athlete visits your school, let alone a Paralympic athlete. So, when we were given the opportunity for Craig McCann to visit, of course we said yes! Throughout the morning, all of the children visited the hall to complete a rather tricky, fitness class. Even some of the staff completed it and found it hard. I was so impressed to see every child give it 100%, determined to be the best that they could be. Following the class fitness, we all came together to listen to Craig’s inspirational story - how he overcame his diagnosis of a brain tumour at the age of 18, the realisation that he would not go into the RAF and how he turned this around to become a GB fencer and cyclist. He made us all promise that whatever happens, we would all grasp every opportunity that comes our way. That is exactly what he has done!
In the afternoon, we all ventured outside to compete in some Olympic events - 400m and the javelin (aka vortex howler). Again, every child from nursery through to Year 6 took part. It really has been a day of learning, celebration, fun and thinking.
Thank you so much to our wonderful sport leaders who supported, coached, ran and cheered from start to finish. You really are a credit and I am very proud of you. Mrs Nel is busy counting the sponsor money…please bring in if you have not done already.
