Year 1 - Monday 23rd March - Home Learning Challenges

Good morning Year 1. The sun is shining and I have lots of exciting things for you to do today. Could you teach your grown up’s how we do our ‘What are we learning today?’ Maybe you could make your own picture timetable to use at home to help you plan your days! If you do, please send me a photo, I would LOVE to see it.

Phonics

It is so important to keep practising your speedy sounds. Today I would like you to watch the set 2 speed sounds, by clicking on the link. I have left the times up for the other speeds sound lessons, in case you want to join in with these too.

English/Science

Today I would like you to plant your sunflower seeds and fill in your equipment list, in your sunflower diary. Remember, I have tucked the seeds into the compost already, although you may need some extra compost for your sunflower plant.

The Bad seed.PNG

Tomorrow you will be reading the story of ‘The Bad Seed’. Look at the front cover of the book. What do you notice? What do you think this story is going to be about? Why do you think the seed is a bad seed?

For those of you who have not got sunflower seeds from school, I was hoping to get these to you in some way, however given the ever changing circumstances I regret this won’t be possible. Grown ups I ask for your help with this learning. If you have any seeds to plant that would be wonderful, if not please can you spend time looking at plants, real or a photo and discuss how to plant them and what they need to grow. I have attached a pdf of the sunflower diary. If you print it back to back it will not be jumbled up and will make a lovely little booklet. If you’re unable to print out the plant diary, I would love the children to make their own! Thank you!

Reading

Snuggle up with a good book today. Could you read it outside in the sunshine?

Maths

Today I would like you to explore Sum Dog. This is an exciting way of practising your maths learning and I know that you are going to love using it. On the ‘How to help your child’ section of the year 1 page, Mrs Hotchkiss has made a brilliant video showing you how to get started. Today I would like you to log on and play on some of the maths games. Starting tomorrow, I will be setting you maths challenges and these will appear when you log in.

Teach a family member how to use a ruler to measure. Can you go in your garden and practise measuring plants you can see or measure objects around the house? Remember to use the language, longer and shorter and don’t forget to say centimetres!

Art

Take a look at Mrs Curtis’ art page and see what she has planned for you today!

PE

Tune in to The Body coach for ‘PE with Joe’ at 9 o’clock this morning, to get you warmed up for the day ahead. https://www.youtube.com/user/thebodycoach1

Tiger Challenge

How many star jumps can you do in 1 minute? Have another go, can you beat your record?

Have a brilliant day,

Miss Lane
