Since September, we have been learning how to practise yoga and mindfulness, alongside Mrs Ward. The children have learnt how to be still, to be relaxed, to be mindful and to be at one with themselves. It hasn’t been until this week that I have seen the true power of it. In preparation for our assessments, Mrs Ward has written us a beautiful affirmation that we can say to relax us before we sit anything that we find challenging. We simply repeat the words, “I can do this,” whilst completing mindfulness breathing, before saying these same words to our partner. It is a really lovely moment in our class. Mrs Webster has taken the gorgeous photos that you can see above, we will be using them in school for our display. Mrs Ward has asked to use these photographs on her own yoga website. A letter will be coming home tonight for you to give your permission.
Learning has been so fast paced this week. The children completed their final maths papers and now have the results. Wow, the class have done well and what is even more exciting, there is so much progress that can be made! I am looking forward to discussing all of this with you next week at parents’s day/evening. Please check you appointment time so that you are up to date will your child’s progress. We have also been writing this week, our own versions of The Wizard of Oz, where Dorothy meets and new character. Please allow plenty of time of Wednesday to read all of your children’s work. After such a busy week, we had a thoroughly wonderful afternoon at The Grand yesterday watching our Year 5 children perform The Taming of the Shrew. They did such a great job; we are excited about joining forces for the end of year play.
Lenten Alms Giving
As mentioned last week, we are collecting for lent in a slightly different way this year. On Monday. there will be a class box on the worship table for lenten collections. Each week I am going to set the children a challenge to see if they can earn some money for our collection box.
How many times can you wash up/load or unload the dishwasher for 20p a time?
Let us see how much money we can raise this week.
Brian House
After pulling names out of the lollipop tub, Mati, Hiruni, Troy and Jessica will be accompanying me to Brian House on Tuesday afternoon to present them with the money that we raised throughout advent. It is an incredibly humbling visit and I am sure that the children will ask wonderful questions in order to gain an insight into this very special place.
Learning Awards
This week, our two certificates are for a determined writer and a creative writer. Adam and Sophie have both given everything to their writing this week.
Adam hangs on my every word and really strives to include every bit of feedback into his next piece of work. The progress that he has made has been huge!
Sophie has used adjectives really well this week to describe the scarecrow and Dorothy in her writing. She has empathised with the character to be able to tell their story.
Have a really wonderful weekend with your family. It is Mrs Webster’s birthday tomorrow - we have sung Happy Birthday and had a lovely day telling her just how special she is. Have a lovely day Mrs Webster.
